NVS Regional Office Chandigarh has invited online applications to empanel Female Hostel Superintendents on contract for the 2026-27 academic session in JNVs run under its region, which covers five states and union territories. These are fully residential postings — selected candidates must live on the Vidyalaya campus and handle both hostel monitoring and general school duties. The exact number of posts is tentative and subject to change, since it depends on actual vacancies arising across JNVs in this region. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are residential, co-educational schools run by NVS under the Ministry of Education, known for giving quality education to talented children, especially from rural areas. NVS forms a panel of Hostel Superintendents based on candidates' academic qualifications, any higher qualification in the relevant field, work experience, and their performance in the personal talk. Only candidates who have ascertained their own eligibility should fill up the application form, since ineligible applications will not be considered. Depending on where vacancies arise, you could be posted to any JNV in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir (UT), Ladakh (UT), or Chandigarh (UT) — so be ready to relocate within this region.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Graduation in any discipline (BA/B.Sc/B.Com or equivalent) from a recognized university.
• Experience: At least 2 years of experience in Pay Level 3 (Rs. 21,700) or above of the 7th CPC in a recognized school, OR ex-defence personnel with 2 years of similar experience.
• Desirable: Master's degree or B.Ed, and proficiency in the local regional language of the posting area (this is checked during the personal talk, no certificate needed).
• Note: Ten months of work in a year, excluding usual vacation breaks, is counted as one full year of experience.
• Since the post is fully residential, you should not have family encumbrances that would prevent you from staying on the Vidyalaya campus.

Age Limit

• You should be between 35 and 62 years old as on 1 May 2026.
• Health and fitness standards will be as per NVS norms applicable for regular appointments.
• Your experience certificate from a previous employer or defence establishment must clearly mention the date of issuance; it will be checked at the time of document verification.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a consolidated pay of Rs. 35,750 per month for this contract post.
• No TA/DA is paid to candidates for attending the personal talk/interview.

Selection Process

There is no written exam for this post. NVS shortlists candidates for the personal talk against anticipated vacancies, after allotting marks for their educational and other qualifications. The selection has these stages:

1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted for the personal talk based on marks awarded for their educational and other qualifications.
2. Personal Talk/Interview: Held in physical mode at designated centres. Only shortlisted candidates are informed by email.
3. Document Verification: You must bring self-attested photocopies of all mark sheets and certificates, along with a government-issued ID, at the time of the personal interaction. Original documents must also be produced for verification.

NVS reserves the right to modify the place of the personal talk if required, and will inform shortlisted candidates about the venue on their registered email ID.

• Supervise the day-to-day functioning of the students' hostel
• Reside on the Vidyalaya campus and stay available for hostel duties round the clock

• Monitor meals, cleanliness, and general health of hostel inmates
• Coordinate with the Principal and warden staff on hostel matters
• Keep records of student attendance, complaints, and daily hostel activities
• Handle emergencies and medical needs of students during non-school hours
• Guide students on personal hygiene, discipline, and daily routine
