SKUAST Jammu Project Associate I Recruitment 2026: Overview

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) is hiring a Project Associate-I for a project funded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT). The project is titled Upscaling the Use Potential of Native Agriculturally Beneficial Microbes through Demonstrations and Capacity Building in Himalayas, and it runs from the Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, at Chatha in Jammu.

The project takes helpful native soil microbes out of the lab and into the field through demonstrations, so the job mixes lab work with regular field visits. It is a contractual, project-linked position, not a regular university job. The notice is called a walk-in, but you still need to send your application in advance before the interview day.

If you have an M.Sc. in soil science, microbiology or plant pathology and have already worked with soil microbes, soil and plant analysis, or pot and field experiments, you fit the profile the project is looking for. NET or GATE qualified candidates get a higher pay slab, so attach that certificate if you have one.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Nature of engagement: Purely ad hoc, temporary and contractual.
  • Tenure: You are first engaged for six months. An extension depends on good performance and available budget, and poor performance can end the engagement at any time during the project.
  • No regularisation: The position is co-terminus with the project and ends automatically when the project ends. You cannot claim a regular job at SKUAST-Jammu or with DBT.
  • Field work: The project involves laying out demonstrations and monitoring them in different districts of the Jammu division.
  • Scoring: Selection gives 80 marks to your academic score and 20 marks to the interview. If your academic score falls outside the zone of consideration, you will not be called for the interview.
  • Experience marks: Only experience that matches the desired experience in the notice is counted.
  • Proof of claims: No marks are given for any claim that lacks a self-attested supporting document in your application.
  • Travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
  • Withdrawal: The university or the funding agency can withdraw the advertised position at any stage without giving a reason.
  • Jurisdiction: Any dispute falls under the courts at Jammu.

Application Submission Notes

Fill the application form attached to the advertisement and send it with self-attested copies of your certificates to the Principal Investigator, Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, SKUAST-J, Chatha, Jammu-180009 (J&K). You can send it by Speed Post or e-mail to vikas.sharma15@skuastj.org; the contact mobile is 7298729990.

Your application must arrive by 5:00 pm on the closing day. If you qualify, you then face the interview on 5 November 2026 at 11:00 am at the Directorate of Research, SKUAST-Jammu, with all original documents in hand. No separate advertisement will be issued if the interview date changes, so keep checking the university website.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out field demonstrations of beneficial native microbes in districts of Jammu division
  • Monitor demonstration plots and record observations regularly
  • Work with native soil microbes in the laboratory
  • Analyse soil and plant samples from project sites
  • Set up and manage pot and field experiments
