NITI Aayog Senior Adviser & Adviser KIH Pool Recruitment 2026 - 3 Posts

National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog), the Government of India's premier policy think tank, has invited applications from eligible officers for 3 posts of Senior Adviser and Adviser under the KIH pool on Deputation (including short-term contract) or Promotion basis. These are high-level policy advisory positions across three specialized areas. This is a rare opportunity to shape national policy at one of the most influential government bodies in India, working directly with senior leadership on critical development agendas.

Each vacancy can be filled at either the Senior Adviser level (Level-15) or the Adviser level (Level-14), depending on the candidate's eligibility and suitability.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification (Essential):

  • Master's Degree in any discipline from a recognized University, OR
  • MBBS degree, OR
  • Degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized University, OR
  • Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institute of Engineers (India), OR
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Two years)

Desirable Qualification:

  • Doctorate in any discipline, OR
  • Master's Degree in Engineering

For Deputation:

You must be a Group A officer working under the Central Government, State Government, Union Territory Administration (including attached and subordinate offices), University, Recognized Research Institution, Public Sector Undertaking, Semi-Government, Statutory or Autonomous Organization, or Non-Government body.

For Senior Adviser (Level-15):

  • (a) Holding analogous posts on regular basis in the parent cadre or department, OR
  • (b) With three years regular service in Level-14 in Pay Matrix (Pre-Revised Pay Band 4: Rs 37,400-67,000 with Grade Pay of Rs 10,000) or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum 18 years (up to 3 years counted for Ph.D.) in formulation, appraisal, execution/implementation, research, monitoring and evaluation of policy, programme or projects

For Adviser (Level-14):

  • (a) Holding analogous posts on regular basis in the parent cadre or department, OR
  • (b) With two years regular service in posts in Level-13A in Pay Matrix (Pre-Revised Pay Band 4: Rs 37,400-67,000 with Grade Pay of Rs 8,900) or equivalent, OR
  • (c) With three years regular service in posts in Level-13 in Pay Matrix (Pre-Revised Pay Band 4: Rs 37,400-67,000 with Grade Pay of Rs 8,700) or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum 15 years (up to 3 years counted for Ph.D.) in formulation, appraisal, execution/implementation, research, monitoring and evaluation of policy, programme or projects

Age Limit

  • Your age should not exceed 58 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications.
  • The crucial date for determining age eligibility is the last date for receipt of applications, i.e. 11 April 2026.

Salary

  • Senior Adviser: Level-15 in the Pay Matrix — Rs 1,82,200 to Rs 2,24,100 per month
  • Adviser: Level-14 in the Pay Matrix — Rs 1,44,200 to Rs 2,18,200 per month
  • You will also receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) and other benefits as per Central Government rules.

Selection Process

Selection for these posts will be through the following process:

  1. Screening of Applications: Your application, along with supporting documents, will be screened by a Selection Committee to verify eligibility and suitability.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not automatically entitle you to an interview call.
  3. Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC): Once selected by the committee, the appointment will be approved by the ACC. Note that candidates who are selected and decline the appointment may face action as per DoPT guidelines.

  2. Fill in the proforma completely with all required details including your educational qualifications, employment history, and experience.
  3. Get the application duly signed by the candidate and countersigned by the Head of Office or any authorized officer.
  4. Attach the following documents:
    • APAR Dossier and APAR Grading statement / photocopies of Annual Confidential Reports for the last five years (2020-21 to 2024-25), duly attested
    • Vigilance Clearance in prescribed detailed format, signed by CVO
    • Integrity Certificate signed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Secretary or above
    • Cadre Clearance / NOC from appropriate authority

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and advise on long-term national policy and strategy in your assigned domain (Health/Finance/Economics) at the highest levels of government.
  • Provide strategic inputs on Cabinet Notes, SFC/EFC Notes, and other policy documents received from line Ministries.
  • Coordinate programme and policy implementation across Central and State Government levels, facilitating convergence among key stakeholders.
  • Conduct high-quality macro-economic modelling, scenario building, and forecasting to support evidence-based policy decisions.
  • Analyze complex policy issues, financial legislation, and budgetary proposals to advise NITI Aayog leadership and Ministry counterparts.
  • Monitor demographic, nutritional, and developmental indicators using national survey data and administrative systems.
  • Engage with civil society organizations, research institutions, and international bodies (IMF, World Bank, ADB) on policy matters.
  • Train, manage, and mentor team members across assigned divisions and handle any other assignment given by competent authority.
