IIT Roorkee Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is looking for an Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow (IPDF) in its Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. You will work with Prof. Kaushik Pal on an institute-funded project titled Development of Graphene-Aerogel Composite for Space Applications and Exploration of Space Manufacturing in Microgravity. This is a full-time, two-year fellowship open to Indian nationals only.

The work sits at the meeting point of nanomaterials and space engineering. Your days will go into making composite materials, preparing aerogels and turning them into sheets, then testing how they behave. You must already know nanocomposite synthesis and high-temperature materials — this is not a role where you learn the basics on the job. Hands-on work with polymers, material characterisation, any space-related research, and a good record of writing papers will make your application stronger.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• IIT Roorkee PhDs excluded: If you earned your PhD at IIT Roorkee, you cannot apply for this fellowship.
• Proof of PhD: If you are shortlisted, bring proof that your PhD has been awarded — a provisional certificate, final degree certificate or degree award notification all work.
• Student status: The fellow is registered as a student. Facilities, leave and progress reviews follow IIT Roorkee notification No. IITR/Rect.Cell-I/11367/E-5001(218) dated 22 October 2026.
• Academic work: Besides research, you will mentor UG and PG students, act as a teaching assistant and join research discussions as your mentor decides.
• Joining: You are expected to join as soon as the offer letter is issued.
• Reservation note: When qualifications and experience are equal, SC/ST candidates get preference.
• Travel: No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.

• Synthesise and characterise graphene-aerogel composite materials
• Prepare aerogel materials and fabricate them into sheets
