IIT Roorkee JRF Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Recruitment 2026: Overview

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has an opening for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in its Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. The fellowship sits under a research project titled "Bridging Innovation and Industry: Commercialization of Low-Temperature Sodium-Ion Batteries", sponsored by the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and led by Prof. Kaushik Pal as Principal Investigator. This is a project-based contract position, not a regular institute job.

The project is about taking sodium-ion battery technology that works at low temperatures from the lab towards the market. That means the fellow will spend most of the time on the bench — making nanocomposite materials, building electrodes and assembling coin and pouch cells for testing. The PI wants someone who already understands electrochemical studies for batteries and nanocomposite synthesis, so a background in materials science, metallurgy, polymers, nanotechnology, chemistry, physics, chemical or mechanical engineering, instrumentation or energy science will help.

The biggest attraction: the selected fellow may get an opportunity for PhD admission at IIT Roorkee. If you hold a valid GATE or NET score and want to build a research career in energy storage, this post gives you hands-on work on an internationally funded project.
