IIT Madras System Administrator Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), through its Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), has released Advertisement No. ICSR/PR/Advt.90/2026 dated 14 May 2026. The role is at the Silicon Photonics Centre of Excellence (CPPICS) under Prof. Bijoy Krishna Das of the Department of Electrical Engineering. This is a contract post — initially for one year and extendable up to five years based on performance. Candidates with strong Linux/Unix administration and HPC experience are encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• You must have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Applications, or a related discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience working in an R&D lab.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix administration (Red Hat, SuSE, Debian)
• Experience managing lab-specific IT/OT infrastructure, including HPC nodes, servers, storage systems, and network configuration (TCP/IP, firewalls)
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• Knowledge of LIMS, virtualization (VMware), and cloud services (AWS, Azure)
• Familiarity with data acquisition tools and scientific instruments
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Other Requirements

• You must be a citizen of India. Persons migrated from Pakistan or subjects of Nepal are eligible with a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India.
• If you are already working on a project at IIT Madras, you must apply through proper channel with a No-Objection Certificate.

Salary

• Consolidated salary: Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 95,000 per month (depending on your qualifications and experience)
• 5% increment every year
• This is a consolidated pay — no separate allowances are mentioned

Selection Process

Selection is based on shortlisting followed by a test or interview:

1. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted based on qualifications, experience, and academic achievements as provided in the online application.
2. Written / Skill Test / Interview: The Institute decides the mode of screening — only shortlisted applicants are contacted.
3. Document Verification: Candidates must produce all original documents (including a printout of the application) at the time of test or interview.

The Institute reserves the right to restrict the number of candidates called for the test or interview based on higher qualifications and relevant experience. There is no written exam pattern published — selection is purely merit-based.
