IIT Madras Research Associate-III Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), through its Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), has announced recruitment for 1 Research Associate-III post in the Department of Civil Engineering. The project is coordinated by Prof. Phanisri Pradeep Pratapa and focuses on developing metamaterials for impact and blast mitigation applications. This is a contract post — initially for 1 year, extendable by an additional 2 years based on your performance. Who Can Apply?

Option 1 — PhD or MS holders:

• Minimum PhD or MS in Engineering (Civil / Mechanical / Aerospace or related fields) from a recognised university

Option 2 — MTech or ME holders:

• Minimum MTech or ME in Engineering (Civil / Mechanical / Aerospace or related fields) with at least one research paper published in an SCI-indexed journal

Note: You must be a citizen of India. Persons from Nepal or migrants from Pakistan need an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

Salary

• Basic pay: Rs. 67,000 per month
• House Rent Allowance (HRA): 30% of basic pay (Rs. 20,100)
• Total in-hand: approximately Rs. 87,100 per month
• This is a contract post — no other government benefits beyond the stated pay

Selection Process

The selection will be done in stages based on the information provided in the online application:

1. Shortlisting: Candidates will be shortlisted based on qualifications, experience, and academic achievements. The institute may also consider experience higher than the minimum prescribed.
2. Written Test / Skill Test (if required): The institute reserves the right to conduct a written or skill-based test as part of shortlisting.
3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
4. Document Verification: You will need to bring a printout of your online application along with original documents when called for test/interview.
