IIT Madras Project Engineer Recruitment 2026 - 8 Posts

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), through its Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), has released Advertisement No. ICSR/PR/Advt.89/2026 dated 14 May 2026. These posts are at the Silicon Photonics Centre of Excellence (CPPICS) under Prof. Bijoy Krishna Das of the Department of Electrical Engineering. These are contract posts — initially for one year and extendable up to five years based on performance. Selected candidates will work on photonic integrated circuits (PICs), TCAD simulation, IC design, and packaging.

Vacancy Breakdown by Team

Total vacancies: 8. Candidates will be assigned to one of the following R&D teams:

• PDK and EPDA Team: TCAD-based simulation and modeling of photonic devices, SPICE models for circuit-level analysis
• PIC Design and Simulation Team: Photonic integrated circuit design, modeling, and optical simulations
• Packaging and Assembly Team: Photonics chip packaging, co-packaged optics design rules, process integration
• Electronics IC Design and Tapeout Team: Analog and mixed-signal building blocks for high-speed SerDes architectures, high-speed PCB design

Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

• 4-year undergraduate degree in Electronics / Electrical Engineering, OR
• MSc in Applied Physics, OR
• Degree in Electronics / Electrical / Mechanical / Material Science and Engineering

Experience

• 2 to 3 years of experience in industry or in an equivalent R&D lab.

Preferred Skills (by team)

• Strong understanding of photonic devices and systems (for PDK/EPDA and PIC Design teams)
• Experience in experimental characterization of photonic devices
• Knowledge of SPICE modeling, TCAD simulation, and optical simulations
• For IC Design team: familiarity with analog/mixed-signal IC design flow, tapeout, post-silicon validation, and high-speed PCB design

Other Requirements

• You must be a citizen of India.
• If you are working on an IIT Madras project, apply through proper channel with a No-Objection Certificate.

Salary

• Consolidated salary: Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 75,000 per month (depending on qualifications and experience)
• 5% increment every year

Selection Process

Selection is based on shortlisting followed by a test or interview:

1. Shortlisting: Based on qualifications, experience, and academic record from the online application.
2. Written / Skill Test / Interview: The Institute decides the mode of screening. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
