Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) Post-Doctoral Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar) has released Advertisement No. IP/52007/Advt0284, dated 23 July 2026, for one Post-Doctoral Fellow position in the Materials Engineering department, under Principal Investigator Prof. Prafull Pandey. The project, titled “The Role of Solute Lattice Site Occupancy in gamma' Precipitates in the Design of High Strength Superalloys,” focuses on developing advanced high-temperature materials used in demanding engineering applications. This is a 4-month appointment that can be extended based on project needs and your performance, making it a solid entry point for recent PhD graduates in materials science who want research experience at a premier technical institute.

In simple terms, superalloys are heat-resistant metal alloys used in aircraft engine turbines and other machinery that runs at very high temperatures. Their strength comes from a microstructure called gamma prime precipitates — tiny particles inside the metal that resist deformation under heat and stress. This project studies exactly where atoms sit within these precipitates, which will help engineers design stronger, more heat-tolerant superalloys in the future. Eligibility for this post follows IIT Gandhinagar's Institute norms rather than external funding agency norms. IIT Gandhinagar is one of the newer IITs, known for its interdisciplinary approach to engineering and science research, with active labs spanning Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Cognitive & Brain Sciences.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: Ph.D. in Materials Engineering. Candidates who have already submitted their PhD dissertation but not yet received the degree can also apply.
  • You need a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent grade from your graduation onwards, and at least 55% marks in both Class 10 and Class 12.
  • Job Profile: You will investigate lattice site occupancy in gamma prime precipitates for high-strength superalloy design, set up experimental facilities, manufacture and characterize alloy samples, work with advanced materials processing techniques, and analyse microstructures and material properties.
  • You will also collaborate closely with the project team and assist them in ongoing research work.
  • This is a temporary position, and merely meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview call — only candidates with a strong, relevant research profile are shortlisted.

Age Limit

  • You should be up to 35 years old as on the last date of submitting your application (7 August 2026).
  • The notification does not mention any age relaxation for reserved categories for this particular post, so the 35-year limit applies uniformly to all applicants.

Salary

  • The selected candidate will get a consolidated monthly remuneration of Rs. 72,000 to Rs. 84,000 per month, based on your qualification and experience.
  • The appointment is for 4 months in the first instance and can be extended depending on project requirements and your performance.
  • Since this role is tied to a specific research project, your continuation beyond the initial term depends on the project's funding and progress, not on any automatic renewal.
  • The notification does not mention any separate DA or HRA — the figure quoted is the full consolidated take-home amount for this position.

Selection Process

IIT Gandhinagar will shortlist and select candidates through the following stages:

  1. Shortlisting: Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria alone does not guarantee a call — only candidates with better qualifications and more relevant experience are shortlisted.
  2. Written Test / Skill Test: Shortlisted candidates may be called for a written test or a skill-based assessment.
  3. Interview: Final selection is based on your performance in the interview.

The institute reserves the right not to call any candidate for the selection process, or not to fill this position at all, without assigning any reason.

IIT Gandhinagar's Research & Development Office regularly advertises similar project-based openings — Post-Doctoral Fellow, Junior Research Fellow, and Project Associate roles — across departments like Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Cognitive & Brain Sciences, so it is worth checking the Staff Openings page from time to time even if this particular post does not suit you.

How to Apply

  1. Go to the IIT Gandhinagar recruitment portal at recruitment.iitgn.ac.in/projectstaff.
  2. Register yourself and fill in the online application form for the Post-Doctoral Fellow position in Materials Engineering.
  3. Upload your CV along with your educational certificates and mark sheets.
  4. Submit your application before 7 August 2026.

For project-specific queries, you can contact Prof. Prafull Pandey at prafull.pandey@iitgn.ac.in.
