The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has released Advertisement No. 600 dated 13 August 2026 for one Scientific and Technical Assistant post in the office of the Director. IASST is located at Vigyan Path, Paschim Boragaon, Garchuk, Guwahati, and works on research areas ranging from advanced materials and plasma physics to biodiversity and drug discovery. This role is a temporary engagement for an initial period of six months, which may or may not be extended depending on project requirements. Candidates comfortable with scientific writing and field travel across Assam, including its interior villages, are especially encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: M.Sc. in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or Zoology with 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.
• Experience: You need 4 years of research experience after your M.Sc., OR a PhD (submitted or awarded) from a recognized university or institution.
• Desirable Skills: Skill in scientific correspondence, preparing scientific presentations and project documents, technical report writing, and assisting with research work. Familiarity with the technical side of video conferencing is a plus.
• Writing Ability: You should have excellent writing proficiency for preparing reports, correspondence, and documentation.
• You should be willing to travel extensively for fieldwork, including to interior villages of Assam, if required.

• The upper age limit for this post is 40 years.

Salary

• If you have an M.Sc. with 4 years of research experience, or you have submitted your PhD, you will get Rs. 42,000 per month (consolidated).
• If you already hold a PhD, you will get Rs. 50,000 per month (consolidated).
• This is a consolidated emolument — no separate DA/HRA has been mentioned in the notice.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written test for this post. Selection is based on:

1. Shortlisting: Your application is screened and only shortlisted candidates are contacted by email.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear for an interview and must carry original certificates, mark sheets, and post-qualification experience certificates.
