The High Court of Karnataka, Bengaluru has released a revised notification to fill 85 Assistant Court Secretary posts across two cadres — 73 posts under the Residual Parent Cadre (RPC) and 12 posts under the Kalyana Karnataka Region (KKR). These are stenographer-type court posts that need English shorthand and typing skills. This is a permanent government job with a two-year probation period. Who Can Apply?

You need to meet all three of the following requirements:

Educational Qualification

  • Degree: You must have a Bachelor's degree in Science, Arts, Commerce, Business Management, Computer Applications, or Business Administration from a recognised university.
  • Shorthand and Typing: You must have passed the Senior Grade (or Proficiency Grade) Examination in English Shorthand AND the Senior Grade Typing Examination in English. A Diploma in Commercial Practice or Secretarial Practice in English is also accepted in place of these.
  • Computer Knowledge: You must have a computer basics certificate of at least 3 months from a recognised institute.

Special Requirement for KKR Posts

  • For the 12 Kalyana Karnataka Region posts, you must hold a 371-J eligibility certificate (Local Cadre) issued by the competent authority.

Age Limit

  • You must be at least 18 years old as on 30 July 2026.
  • Maximum age for General Merit: 40 years
  • Maximum age for OBC (Category II(A), II(B), III(A), III(B)): 43 years
  • Maximum age for SC / ST / Category-I: 45 years
  • Extra relaxation: A one-time age relaxation of 5 years is allowed as per Karnataka Government Order DPAR 262 SRR 2025 dated 29 January 2026.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a salary in Pay Level-7, ranging from Rs. 44,900 to Rs. 1,42,400 per month.
  • You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Karnataka Government rules.

Application Fee

  • General Merit and OBC (Category II(A), II(B), III(A), III(B)): Rs. 500
  • SC / ST / Category-I / Persons with Benchmark Disability: Rs. 250
  • Pay the fee online through the SBI payment gateway. The fee is not refunded, so pay only once.

Selection Process

Selection is based on a shorthand test and an interview — there is no written exam:

  1. Shorthand Test (100 marks): A passage of 600 words is dictated at 120 words per minute for about 5 minutes. You must transcribe it on a computer within 45 minutes. You need at least 60 marks to pass.
  2. Interview (20 marks): Candidates who pass the shorthand test are called for an interview in order of merit — about 5 times the number of vacancies in each category. You need at least 10 marks to pass.
  3. Document Verification: You must produce all original certificates at the time of the test, interview, and verification.

The final selection is based on your total out of 120 marks, and you need a minimum of 70 marks overall.
