Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), located in Kochi, Kerala, has released a re-notification (Notification No. Ad.D3/132/2008/Stat.Vol.II dated 14 July 2026) inviting applications for 1 Assistant Professor (Contract Basis) post in the Department of Statistics. CUSAT was established in 1971 and is known for its strength in applied sciences, technology, and research, having consistently featured among the top-35 universities in NIRF rankings. This is a temporary teaching position that continues till a regular teacher joins duty or for one year, whichever comes first. If you have recently cleared NET/SET or completed your PhD in Statistics, this is a good opportunity to gain teaching experience at a well-established university. Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Master's Degree in Statistics with 55% marks (or equivalent grade on a point scale) from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• NET/SET Requirement: Along with your Master's degree, you must have cleared NET conducted by UGC or CSIR, or an equivalent test such as SLET/SET.
• PhD Alternative: Instead of NET/SET, you can qualify with a PhD degree awarded under the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016. Your PhD must be awarded in regular mode, with the thesis evaluated by at least two external examiners, an open PhD viva voce conducted, at least two research papers published from your PhD work (with at least one in a refereed journal), and at least two papers presented at UGC/ICSSR/CSIR-sponsored conferences.
• Foreign PhD: A PhD from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 in QS, THE, or ARWU world rankings is also accepted.
• Desirable Qualification: Computer programming skills using statistical software such as SPSS, R, Python, or SAS. Having a PhD is also considered an added advantage.
• Reservation Policy: CUSAT follows its Communal Reservation Policy for this appointment, treating all University Departments and Centres as a single unit.

Salary

• If you hold a PhD, you will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 47,000 per month.
• If you do not have a PhD, you will get a consolidated salary of Rs. 45,000 per month.
• This is a contract appointment — it lasts till a regular teacher joins duty, or for one year (with a break during the May-June vacation), whichever is earlier.
• Appointments, conditions of service, and other benefits are governed by KSR, KS&SSR, and university statutes/ordinances as amended from time to time.
