About This Job

Apply for 18 project staff posts in CSIR-NBRI. B.Sc, diploma, M.Sc, B.Tech, M.Tech or PhD eligible. Salary: Rs 20,000-67,000. Last date: 11 Sep 2026.

CSIR-NBRI Project Staff Recruitment 2026: Overview

CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI) is recruiting project staff for sponsored research based at its Lucknow laboratory. The drive brings together plant molecular biology, phytochemistry, environmental science and agrotechnology assignments under one walk-in notice. It is especially useful if your training crosses laboratory science, data-led biology, crop research or field ecology and you want hands-on project experience in a CSIR institute.

The positions sit at different responsibility levels, from technical project assistance to experienced scientific leadership. Your exact project code matters because the qualification, experience preference and research work change across assignments even when the post title is the same. Read the matching project row carefully and attend the walk-in date assigned to that research area.

Posts and Disciplines

  • Project Associate-I: entry-level research work across virus detection, tomato improvement, botanical wealth, indoor-air purification and smart agro-technologies.
  • Project Associate-II: experienced research support for fern genomics, crop genome editing and the conversion of temple floral waste into useful products.
  • Senior-PAT: advanced assignments involving computational biology, genomics, bioinformatics and crop-improvement research.
  • Project Scientist-II: a senior scientific role supporting genome-editing work and advanced molecular research, including cotton-fibre applications.
  • Young Professional-I: materials and formulation work connected with a nano-biofertilizer research programme.
  • Young Professional-II: environmental and agricultural formulation research aimed at reducing arsenic accumulation in rice.
  • Project Assistant-II: practical laboratory and technical support for floral-waste extraction, characterisation and formulation activities.

Post-wise Duties

Project Associates

You will carry out experiments, record results and support project reporting under the supervising scientist. Depending on the code, the work may involve molecular biology, tissue culture, bioinformatics, plant ecology, analytical chemistry or field studies, so match your application to your actual training.

Senior-PAT and Project Scientist-II

You will take on more independent research planning, interpret complex data and help coordinate specialised laboratory work. Advanced genomics, genome editing and computational analysis are central to several of these assignments, alongside clear documentation and collaboration with the project team.

Young Professionals and Project Assistant-II

You will support formulation development, instrument or sample work, data handling and day-to-day project delivery. The role can combine laboratory routines with practical research support, and the exact balance depends on the sponsored project.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project tenure: every engagement is temporary and co-terminus with its project, subject to satisfactory progress, continuing funds and CSIR rules.
  • Total CSIR project service: normal cumulative tenure is capped at six years, with a limited exception for specified short industry or consultancy projects up to the stated overall ceiling.
  • Experience counting: where experience is required, it is counted only after you acquired the minimum qualification for that grade.
  • Grade conversion: if your institution awards CGPA, SGPA or OGPA, bring its official formula showing the percentage equivalent.
  • Interview language: you may interact with the committee in Hindi or English.
  • Travel and timing: no TA or DA is paid, and a large turnout may extend interviews into the evening or the following day.
  • No regular claim: project engagement does not give you a right to permanent absorption in CSIR-NBRI.

Application Submission Notes

This is a walk-in recruitment, with separate reporting days for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology; Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry and Product Development; Plant Ecology and Environmental Technologies; and Botanical Garden, Plant Conservation and Agrotechnologies. The application form is available at the venue and may also be downloaded in advance from the institute website. Bring one recent photograph, original certificates and one self-attested set from matriculation onward, including date-of-birth and experience proof.
