CSIR-IIIM, Jammu — an autonomous institute under the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology — has released Project Advertisement No. 21/2026 for 2 Project Associate-I positions under CSIR-funded project No. FBR030406, titled "Discovery and Molecular Profiling of High-Value Bioactive and Fluorescent Molecules from Indian Marine Algae". One post is for candidates with a Microbiology/Biotechnology background and the other is for candidates with a Chemistry background. Both positions are purely temporary, initially for one year or until the project ends, whichever is earlier — the project currently runs up to 31 March 2028.

Who Can Apply?

For the Microbiology/Biotechnology Stream:

• Qualification: M.Sc. in Microbiology/Fermentation Technology/Bio Technology/Life Science, OR B.E./B.Tech in Chemical Engineering/Biochemical Engineering/Fermentation Technology/Bio Technology
• Desirable: Research experience or knowledge in extraction and purification of bioactive compounds and algal technology

For the Chemistry Stream:

• Qualification: M.Sc./M.S./M.Pharm/M.Tech in Chemistry/Organic Chemistry/Natural Products Chemistry from a recognised university
• Desirable: Research experience or knowledge in Organic Synthesis/Natural Products Chemistry

Age Limit

• Upper age limit is 35 years for both posts.
• Age Relaxation: Given as per Government of India rules. Your age will be counted as on the date of the interview.

Salary

• You will get Rs. 31,000 per month + HRA if you have qualified CSIR-UGC/ICAR/ICMR NET (including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship), GATE, or an equivalent national-level exam conducted by central government departments like DBT/DST or their agencies.
• You will get Rs. 25,000 per month + HRA if you do not fall under the above category.
• HRA will be paid only if institutional accommodation is not availed or provided.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

1. Interview: For the Microbiology/Biotechnology stream, the interview is conducted in hybrid mode — in-person at CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, or online through MS Teams. For the Chemistry stream, the interview is in-person at CSIR-IIIM, Jammu.

If a large number of candidates apply, the Screening Committee may revisit the screening criteria before shortlisting candidates for interview. After selection, your original documents — including educational qualification, date of birth, caste, and age relaxation certificates — will be verified; any discrepancy will cancel your selection.

Your total engagement across all CSIR labs, including this one, cannot exceed six years, and your performance will be reviewed periodically — unsatisfactory performance can lead to termination without prior notice. Canvassing in any form will disqualify your candidature.
