BRIC-ILS Laboratory Technician Recruitment 2026: Overview

BRIC-Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology, is recruiting a Laboratory Technician for a genomic wastewater-surveillance project led by Dr P. Prasad, Scientist-F. The project expands INSACOG surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, emerging pathogens and antimicrobial resistance through genomic methods, with field activity in and around Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. This is practical work that connects routine environmental sampling with laboratory operations rather than a desk-only technical post.

The technician will support a BIRAC-funded research programme whose samples include wastewater, soil and other material gathered from several collection sites. The notice gives preference to applicants who already have biological technical skills and confidence with Microsoft tools, so your ability to organise field records and routine laboratory work will matter alongside your formal education. You should be comfortable moving between collection locations and the institute because extensive travel for sampling and processing is part of the assignment.

The assignment brings field and institute work together within one project team. Your schedule may move between outside collection sites and the laboratory where material is processed, while routine sampling continues through the project period. That working mix explains why willingness to travel is highlighted, rather than treated as an occasional extra. It also makes careful coordination important when samples, laboratory supplies and field records must remain organised at the same time.

Service Conditions and Caveats

  • Project link: The role belongs to the project titled Expansion of INSACOG Wastewater surveillance of SARS-CoV-2, Emerging Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance through Genomic-based methods.
  • Tenure: The project is planned for twelve months, and the appointment is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project. It does not create a claim to a regular ILS position.
  • Field mobility: Regular visits to wastewater collection sites around Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are an essential part of the work, not an occasional extra duty.
  • Interview expense: ILS will not pay travel or daily allowance for attending the interview.
  • Communication: Updates will be sent through email, while the shortlist and interview information will also appear on the ILS website. The institute will not issue a separate call letter.
  • Decision: The Director's decision on the appointment is final, and the notice says the institute will not enter into further correspondence about selection.

If shortlisted, you may attend the interview in hybrid mode. Keep the email address used in your application active and check both your inbox and the institute website, since those are the stated channels for recruitment updates.
