CSL Trade Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Overview

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a Miniratna shipbuilding company of the Government of India, is taking in ITI Trade Apprentices and Technician (Vocational) Apprentices for one year of apprenticeship training at its shipyard in Kochi. The training runs under the Apprentices Act, 1961, so you learn on real shipbuilding and ship repair work while getting a monthly stipend. This drive is open only to candidates with a Kerala domicile, and there is no written test: seats go by the marks in your ITI or VHSE qualification.

It suits you if you recently passed ITI in a trade such as Electrician, Fitter or Welder, or finished VHSE in one of the listed vocational subjects, and want hands-on shipyard experience on your CV.

Posts and Disciplines

• ITI Trade Apprentices (shipyard trades): Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Machinist, Electronic Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic, Sheet Metal Worker, Pipe Fitter / Plumber, Mechanic Diesel, Mechanic Motor Vehicle and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic / Technician.
• ITI Trade Apprentices (drawing, finishing and wood trades): Draughtsman (Mechanical), Draughtsman (Civil), Painter (General) / Painter (Marine) and Ship Wright Wood / Carpenter / Wood Work Technician.
• ITI Trade Apprentice (Marine Fitter): this trade is still awaiting approval as a designated trade from the Directorate General of Training (DGT), so contracts for Marine Fitter apprentices can be registered only after that approval.
• Technician (Vocational) Apprentices: one seat each in Accounting and Taxation / Accounts Executive, Basic Nursing and Palliative Care / General Duty Assistant, Customer Relationship Management / Office Operation Executive, Electrical and Electronic Technology / Electrician Domestic Solution, and Food and Restaurant Management / Craft Baker.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: you must be domiciled in Kerala to apply.
• Previous apprenticeship: if you have already done apprenticeship training anywhere under the Apprentices Act, 1961, for any length of time, you cannot apply.
• Tie-break rule: when two candidates have the same percentage, the older candidate ranks higher.
• Contract: selected candidates sign the apprenticeship contract on the apprenticeshipindia.gov.in portal.
• No job guarantee: CSL has no obligation to employ you after the training ends.
• No boarding or travel help: CSL gives no lodging, food or travel expenses for certificate verification or during training.
• Rank list: the list stays valid for 18 months from the date the last candidate reports, and later seats are filled from it.
• Equivalent qualifications: upload an equivalency certificate from the competent authority, or your application will not be considered.
• Marks entry: if the marks you type differ from your uploaded mark sheet, your application is rejected.

Applying is a two-step process on the CSL SAP E-recruitment portal: first a one-time registration, then the application for your trade or vocation. • Follow shipyard safety rules and wear protective gear at all times
• Handle tools, machines and testing equipment used in your trade
• Help skilled workers with fitting, welding, wiring, piping or finishing jobs
• Keep a record of your training tasks and attendance as required under the Apprentices Act
