Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a Government of India Schedule A Miniratna company, is taking ITI Trade Apprentices for training at its AN Ship Repair Unit in Sri Vijaya Puram. The engagement runs under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and is meant for local ITI certificate holders who want supervised, practical exposure in a working ship-repair unit. This is apprenticeship training rather than an offer of regular employment, so you should view it as a chance to build trade experience in an industrial setting.

Posts and Disciplines

• Electrician: practical exposure to electrical equipment, cabling, fault checks and safe maintenance work within the repair unit.
• Fitter: workshop-based training in fitting, assembly, measurement, equipment upkeep and support for mechanical repair jobs.
• Welder: supervised practice in joining and repair work while following welding quality and shop-floor safety requirements.
• Stenography and Secretarial Assistant: office training covering correspondence, typing, records, scheduling and administrative support.

Post-wise Duties

Electrician

You will assist with electrical inspection and maintenance, use trade tools safely and keep basic work records under the guidance of experienced staff. Your training may include tracing faults and supporting repair activity around shipyard systems.

Fitter

You will learn to read job instructions, take measurements and support equipment fitting and assembly. The work calls for careful tool handling, attention to tolerances and good workshop discipline.

Welder

You will prepare surfaces, support welding and repair assignments, and follow approved safety practices. You are expected to keep the work area orderly and check completed joints as directed by your supervisor.

Stenography and Secretarial Assistant

You will help prepare correspondence, organise files and provide day-to-day office support. Accurate typing, clear record keeping and responsible handling of official information are central to this trade.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Domicile: You must be an Indian citizen domiciled in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
• Training term: The apprenticeship lasts for one year under the Apprentices Act and the applicable rules.
• Previous training: Anyone who has already undergone apprenticeship training in another organisation for any duration under the Act cannot join this intake.
• Employment status: Completing the programme does not create a right to a job at CSL, and the company has no obligation to offer employment afterwards.
• Seat availability: CSL may change or leave seats unfilled according to future requirements, candidate suitability and available training facilities.
• Rank list: The unit may operate its trade-wise rank lists for up to 18 months if a training seat arises during their validity.
• Jurisdiction: Claims connected with the notice or selection are subject to the courts and forums at Ernakulam.
