CSL METI Faculty Recruitment 2026: Overview

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a Miniratna shipbuilding company under the Government of India, is hiring three sea-going professionals as faculty for its Marine Engineering Training Institute (METI) in Kochi. METI prepares the next generation of marine engineers and ship officers, so CSL wants people who have actually run ships — a Chief Engineer, a Master Mariner and an Electro Technical Officer. The notice (Ref. No. CSL/P&A/RECTT/CONTRACT/FACULTY (METI)/2022/1, dated 14 September 2026) offers contract posts, and it is a strong option if you are ready to move from sailing to teaching.

You do not need a teaching background to apply. Teaching experience at a DGS-approved institute is listed only as a plus, along with trainer certifications such as VICT or TOTA. Only Indian nationals can apply.

Posts and Disciplines

• Faculty (Marine Chief Engineer): for engineers with a mechanical engineering degree and a MEO Class I (Unlimited Horse Power) Certificate of Competency who have sailed as Chief Engineer on Indian or foreign-going ships. Gas tanker experience as Chief or Second Engineer with DC endorsement is a plus.
• Faculty (Master Mariner - Foreign Going): for mariners holding a Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency from DGMA who have sailed as Master on foreign-going tanker ships. Oil and gas tanker command experience and the AECS course are desirable.
• Faculty (Electro Technical Officer): for graduates in electrical, electronics or related engineering branches who have sailed as Electrical Officer on foreign-going ships.

Post-wise Duties

Faculty (Marine Chief Engineer)

You will teach marine engineering subjects to METI trainees, drawing on your years in the engine room. Expect to guide trainees on machinery, watchkeeping and engine-room safety.

Faculty (Master Mariner - Foreign Going)

You will train students in navigation, ship handling and tanker operations, sharing your command experience from foreign-going tankers.

Faculty (Electro Technical Officer)

You will cover shipboard electrical and electronic systems, helping trainees understand how power, automation and control equipment work at sea.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract tenure: Five years for the Marine Chief Engineer and Electro Technical Officer posts, and three years for the Master Mariner post, subject to CSL's needs and your performance.
• Negotiable pay: Pay for the Marine Chief Engineer and Master Mariner posts is negotiable; only the Electro Technical Officer post has a fixed starting figure.
• Certificates of competency: Your COC must be issued or recognised by the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA).
• Experience after qualification: Only experience gained after your qualification counts, worked out as on 1 October 2026.
• Rank list: Ties in interview marks go to the older candidate. The rank list stays valid for up to 18 months.
• No permanent job: These are purely contract posts, and CSL is not bound to offer a job after the contract ends.
• Medical fitness: You must pass a medical check at a hospital named by CSL before joining.
• No travel allowance: You will not get TA/DA for attending the interview.
• Legal disputes: Cases about this recruitment can be filed only in courts at Ernakulam.
