Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is hiring 4 Consultants (Private Secretary) on a one-year contract basis. There is one post each at the Regional Offices in Hyderabad, Bhopal, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Only retired Government / PSU / Autonomous Body / Statutory Body servants can apply. The last date to apply online is 04 June 2026. The remuneration is fixed based on your last basic pay (typically Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100 per month, depending on Pay Level at retirement).
TRAI Consultant (Private Secretary) Recruitment 2026 - 4 Posts
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), New Delhi, a statutory body set up under the TRAI Act, 1997, has released Vacancy Circular No. C-01/2026-27 dated 15 May 2026 for engagement of Consultants on contract basis. These positions are for retired officers who served as PPS / PS / PA or equivalent in Central or State Ministries, Departments, Organizations, Autonomous Bodies, Statutory Bodies, or PSUs. The contract is for an initial period of one year, extendable up to age 65 (or up to 70 in exceptional cases with Chairperson's approval).

Who Can Apply?
- Status: You must be a retired Government servant or a retired employee from a PSU / Autonomous Body / Statutory Body. Serving employees are not eligible.
- Essential Qualification: Bachelor's degree from a recognised University or Institution.
- Post Qualification Experience: You must have retired as PPS / PS / PA or equivalent from a Central / State Ministry, Department, Organization, Autonomous Body, Statutory Body or PSU at a pay level of 8 or above (as per 7th CPC).
- Skill Requirement: Minimum 20 years of experience in taking dictation in shorthand and its transcription, assisting in drafting and issuing correspondence, managing appointments, attending to telephone calls and visitors, and maintaining papers required for retention by the officer.
- Computer Knowledge: Knowledge to operate computer with e-office is a must.
- Vigilance: Vigilance Clearance from the previous organisation is required.
Age Limit
- Maximum age: 64 years as on the date of issue of this Vacancy Circular (15 May 2026).
- The term of engagement may be extended up to age 65 years, and in deserving cases up to 70 years with the approval of Chairperson, TRAI.
Salary
- For retired Central Govt. employees with pension: Monthly amount = Last basic pay at retirement minus basic pension. Roughly Rs. 47,600 to Rs. 1,51,100 per month depending on your Pay Level at retirement.
- For retired DoT PSU employees: Notional pay is calculated as the mean of Cell-1 and Cell-10 of the equivalent Pay Level; 50% of that basic pay is paid as remuneration.
- For retired Central Govt. employees under NPS: Last basic pay minus 30% of last basic pay = monthly amount.
- For retired employees of Non-Pensionable Organisations / PSU / Autonomous / Statutory Body: Last basic pay at retirement + 5% per year of additional post-retirement experience (rounded off). Plus Rs. 8,000 fixed transport allowance per month.
- Allowances: No DA or HRA. Travelling Allowance as per entitlement at the time of retirement, capped at Joint Advisor TRAI level. Paid leave of 1.5 days per completed month.
Selection Process
- Screening of Applications: TRAI will screen all online applications and shortlist eligible candidates based on the experience and qualifications stated in the notification.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for verification of original certificates (date of birth, qualification, PPO, retirement order, etc.).
- Engagement Order: Selected candidates will be issued the contract engagement letter for an initial term of one year, extendable based on individual performance.
There is no written exam for this position. Selection is purely based on screening of credentials and experience.
