National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NIT Warangal has released an advertisement for one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position under a research project titled "A circular economy solution: Recycling spent Lithium ion battery cathode to catalysts for volatile organic compound degradation", sponsored by the TEXMiN Foundation and based in the Department of Chemical Engineering. This is a two-year temporary research position that gives you hands-on experience in battery recycling and materials research. Selected candidates are also eligible to register for a PhD at NIT Warangal as per institute rules, making this a good stepping stone if you want to pursue doctoral research alongside project work. As a JRF on this project, you will run DFT (Density Functional Theory) simulations of battery materials, extract valuable metals from spent lithium-ion battery cathodes, synthesize and test catalytic materials, and write research articles based on your findings. Who Can Apply?

• Qualification (Path 1): B.Tech/B.E. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Petrochemical Engineering, Petroleum Technology, Nanotechnology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, EEE, Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Polymer Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering or allied disciplines AND M.Tech/M.E. in a related specialization.
• Qualification (Path 2): B.Tech/B.E. or equivalent degree alone in the disciplines listed above.
• Qualification (Path 3): M.Sc. in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Environmental Science, Polymer Science, Nanotechnology or allied areas.
• Preferred: Candidates who have qualified GATE, CSIR-NET, UGC-NET, GPAT or DST-INSPIRE Fellowship will be preferred for this position.
• Desirable: Prior experience in Machine Learning, DFT simulations, battery recycling or extraction techniques, and experience writing technical papers or communications.
• Note: You need to satisfy only one of the three qualification paths listed above — read them carefully to check which one applies to you.

Age Limit

• You should be under 30 years of age.
• Age Relaxation: As per the norms and guidelines of the Institute.

Salary

• You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month if you hold a qualifying exam score (GATE/NET and similar).
• HRA will be paid additionally as per Institute rules.
• Duration: This position is sanctioned for two years, subject to satisfactory performance and continuation of the project.
• Other Benefit: You are eligible to register for a PhD at NIT Warangal as per institute rules — you will need to apply separately when the PhD admission window opens.

Selection Process

NIT Warangal will select the JRF through the following steps:

1. Shortlisting of applications based on qualification and desirable criteria.
2. Interview (conducted online or offline) — the list of eligible/shortlisted candidates will be posted on the institute website and communicated by email or phone.

Note: No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview. If it is held online, make sure you have a good internet connection.
