NIT Warangal Faculty Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal), an Institution of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, is hiring regular faculty at all four levels of its four-tier flexible faculty structure: Assistant Professor Grade II, Assistant Professor Grade I, Associate Professor and Professor. Openings are spread across twelve departments, from Civil and Computer Science to the newer Computational and Data Science and Education departments. A few of the Assistant Professor Grade I and Grade II posts are backlog vacancies for SC and ST candidates. Indian citizens and OCI card holders can apply, and the institute openly invites women candidates and applicants from across India and abroad.

All posts are filled by direct recruitment, so even serving NIT Warangal faculty who want a higher post or pay level must apply through the same online portal.

Posts and Disciplines

• Professor (Pay Level 14A): one senior post in Civil Engineering.
• Associate Professor (Pay Level 13A2): posts in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Computational and Data Science.
• Assistant Professor Grade I (Pay Level 12): posts in Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Computational and Data Science.
• Assistant Professor Grade II (Pay Level 10): the largest group, covering Biotechnology, Civil, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical, Mathematics, Mechanical, Management Studies, Physics, Computational and Data Science and Education.
• Specialisations wanted: each department lists focus areas, such as VLSI design and tape-out in ECE, quantum technology and robotics in CSE, groundwater and geotechnics in Civil, and supply chain and aerospace in Mechanical. Matching one of these helps at the shortlisting stage.
• Departments with no vacancy: Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Chemistry and Humanities and Social Sciences are not hiring; only serving NIT Warangal faculty may apply there.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Rules followed: Qualifications, experience and service terms follow Schedule E of the First Statutes of NITs (2017, amended in 2023) and the Ministry's 2019 clarifications.
• Credit points: Meeting the cumulative essential credit points only makes you eligible for scrutiny; departments can set higher, specialisation-wise shortlisting criteria.
• No inbreeding: If your Ph.D. is from NIT Warangal, you need at least 3 years of post-Ph.D. experience before applying, unless you already teach there on a regular or contract basis.
• Offer at a different level: The selection committee may offer you a lower post than the one you applied for, or a higher starting pay if you are exceptionally strong.
• Reserved-category certificates: Your OBC-NCL certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, and EWS candidates need an income and asset certificate valid for 2026-27. Unfilled EWS posts become unreserved.
• Medical fitness: Appointment depends on being found medically fit by the institute.
• Interview travel: You get III-tier AC train fare for attending. Applicants living in India must appear in person; those abroad may be interviewed online at the committee's discretion.
• Government employees: Apply through proper channel or bring a No Objection Certificate to the presentation or interview.
• Updates: Shortlists, interview schedules and any corrigendum appear only on the institute website and recruitment portal, so log in regularly.
