Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is hiring 2 Individual Consultants — one for Artificial Intelligence and one for Data Privacy & Cyber Security — at its headquarters in New Delhi. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Consultant Recruitment 2026 - 2 Posts

TRAI has issued Vacancy Circular No. C-2/2026-27 to engage two Individual Consultants on a contract basis at its New Delhi headquarters — one for the NSL-1 Division (Artificial Intelligence) and one for the IT Division (Data Privacy & Cyber Security). TRAI is a statutory body set up under the TRAI Act, 1997 to regulate telecom services and protect the interests of service providers and consumers; it has also regulated the Broadcasting and Cable Services sector since 2004. The initial engagement is for one year, extendable up to four years based on your performance and TRAI's requirements. This is a great opportunity for experienced IT/telecom professionals to work directly with India's telecom regulator on AI policy and cybersecurity.

Vacancy Breakdown

The number of vacancies is tentative — TRAI will also prepare a reserve panel for future openings in these roles. Both consultants will be deployed for specific projects identified by TRAI's functional wings, and the Authority can assign additional duties as needed, without extra allowance for such assignments.

Who Can Apply?

For Consultant (Artificial Intelligence):

• Qualification: B.Tech/B.E. in Electronics, Electronics & Telecommunication, Electrical & Electronics, IT, Computer Science, MCA or M.Sc. (Computer Science); OR M.Tech/M.E. in a related field; OR MBA in IT/Information Systems.
• Experience: At least 8 years in the Telecom/IT field, with 3+ years of desirable hands-on experience in AI/ML/Deep Learning, GenAI, data analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau) and programming (Python, R, SQL, Java).
• You will also need to understand global regulatory and policy frameworks such as the EU AI Act, OECD guidelines, India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, NITI Aayog policy papers and MeitY guidelines, along with AI/ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PySpark and Hugging Face.
• Certifications in AI/ML/DL/Data Science such as Certified Data Scientist or Certified AI Engineer are desirable.

For Consultant (Data Privacy & Cyber Security):

• Qualification: B.Tech/B.E. in Electronics, Electronics & Telecommunication, Electrical & Electronics, IT, Computer Science, MCA or M.Sc. (Computer Science); OR M.Tech/M.E. in a related field; OR MBA in IT/Information Systems.
• Experience: At least 8 years in the IT field, including a minimum of 5 years in security — threat analysis, incident response, cloud/network security and vulnerability assessments.
• You should also be familiar with ISO 27001, ITIL and other governance models, cyber threat intelligence frameworks (MISP, OpenCTI, STIX/TAXII), firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act.
• Certifications like CEH, CISSP, CISM, CISA or CompTIA Security+ are desirable.

Age Limit

• You should not be more than 45 years old as on 13 July 2026 (the date of issue of the vacancy circular).

Salary

• You will get Rs. 24 Lakh to Rs. 30 Lakh per annum (about Rs. 2 Lakh to Rs. 2.5 Lakh per month), based on your experience.
• The initial engagement is for one year, extendable annually up to a maximum of four years based on performance and TRAI's requirement.
• TRAI will also provide basic support facilities such as office space, a computer/laptop, stationery and internet access so you can carry out your work smoothly.
• As a Consultant, you will not be treated as a regular TRAI employee — this is a contract engagement, not a permanent government job. You will need to submit a good health certificate before joining.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

1. Document Screening: TRAI reviews your uploaded educational certificates, experience letters and documentary proof of specialized experience in AI/ML/Data Privacy/Cyber Security.
2. Shortlisting and Engagement: Consultants are engaged based on the merit of their qualifications and experience.

TRAI reserves the right to cancel the selection process at any stage without assigning a reason, and only complete applications with all required document uploads will be considered.
