BRIC-National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) Technical Officer Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NIAB, an autonomous institute under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, has released Advertisement No. 16/2026 to fill 1 Technical Officer post (Unreserved category) at its Hyderabad campus. NIAB focuses on animal genetics and genomics, transgenic technology, reproductive technology, disease research, nutritional enrichment, and bioinformatics, with the broader goal of translational research for genetic enhancement of Indian livestock and development of new vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics for farm animals. This is a lien vacancy that is likely to continue, and the selected candidate will assist scientists with laboratory work, advanced instrumentation, and animal cell culture techniques. If selected, you will be appointed initially on a 2-year probation period, which the competent authority may extend based on your performance, and your continuation in the role will depend on how you perform during this period. Candidates with hands-on lab experience in molecular biology and bio-safety cabinets are especially encouraged to apply.

The Job Description for this post is to assist scientists in laboratory-related work, or any other job assigned by the competent authority. NIAB says this role needs strong team-working skills, and your day-to-day duties will primarily follow laboratory guidelines and standard operating procedures set by the institute.

Who Can Apply?

  • Desirable: Skill in handling inverted microscopes, CO2 incubators and cell counters
  • Desirable: Knowledge of bio-analytical techniques, lab safety, and quality assurance
  • Desirable: Proficiency in Word, Excel and other computer productivity software

Age Limit

  • You should not be more than 35 years old, reckoned as on the closing date for receipt of applications (14 August 2026).
  • Age Relaxation: As per Government of India guidelines for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen candidates.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get Pay Level 6 of the 7th CPC (Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month).
  • You will also get the usual allowances admissible to Central Government employees of the same pay and status posted at Hyderabad.

Selection Process

Selection will be done in the following stages:

  1. Screening: If a large number of applications are received, NIAB will screen candidates by higher/relevant qualification and experience. The decision of the competent authority on this screening is final.
  2. Written Test: Only shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test.
  3. Skill Test: Candidates may also be called for a skill test, as decided by the competent authority.

Candidates called for the written/skill test will be paid single second-class rail fare from the actual place they travel from (or their normal place of residence, whichever is nearer) to Secunderabad Railway Station, on production of relevant travel documents.

Note: Canvassing in any form, or bringing in influence of any kind, will automatically disqualify your candidature. NIAB will not entertain interim enquiries about the recruitment, so you are advised to apply early and avoid the last-minute rush.

Responsibilities

  • Assist scientists with laboratory experiments and research work
  • Handle laminar hoods, bio-safety cabinets and animal cell culture procedures

  • Operate lab equipment including inverted microscopes, CO2 incubators and cell counters
  • Maintain laboratory safety and quality assurance standards
