NIT Raipur Research Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

National Institute of Technology Raipur (NIT Raipur), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, is hiring a Research Assistant and a Field Investigator for a short research project run from its Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. The project is funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi and is titled "Language, Culture and Survival: A Sociolinguistic and Ethnographic Exploration of Birhor PVTGs across Indian States".

The Birhor are a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG), and this study looks at their language and culture. Both posts are temporary and end with the project, so this suits you if you hold a Social Science master's degree, have some research or survey experience, and want hands-on fieldwork with a tribal community.

Posts and Disciplines

• Research Assistant: the senior project role, open to Social Science postgraduates who also hold NET, M.Phil. or Ph.D. A Ph.D. and earlier work on tribal language and culture surveys will give you an edge. The engagement runs for about six and a half months.
• Field Investigator: a shorter, survey-focused role for Social Science postgraduates who already have one year of experience as a field investigator. The engagement runs for two months and 20 days.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Travel is a must: the project is field-based, so you must be willing to travel across Bengal and Bihar. TA/DA for fieldwork is paid as per Institute norms.
• Language edge: the notice prefers candidates who are bilingual or multilingual in any Austro-Asiatic family language along with English.
• Full-time work: you must work full time and cannot receive any money from another institute while on the project.
• Fixed pay: the monthly amount is consolidated, not a pay-matrix salary.
• Project-linked tenure: both posts are co-terminus with the project; the form's undertaking confirms it is a purely temporary contractual engagement.
• No interview TA/DA: you travel to the interview at your own cost, and any canvassing disqualifies you.
