Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Joint Advisor Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a notification to fill the post of Joint Advisor at its Regional Office in Kolkata, on deputation on foreign service terms. TRAI is the statutory body set up under the TRAI Act, 1997, to regulate telecommunication services and protect the interests of both service providers and consumers, while promoting the orderly growth of India's telecom sector. Since 2004, TRAI's mandate has also expanded to cover the regulation of Broadcasting and Cable Services. Working at TRAI gives you exposure to high-level policy-making that shapes how millions of Indians access telecom and broadcasting services. This is a deputation-only post open to serving government and public sector officers, for an initial period of three years. TRAI first invited applications in May 2026 with a deadline of 22 June 2026, and after two rounds of extension, the current last date to apply is 31 July 2026. Officers who join and later seek premature repatriation may be debarred from applying to TRAI vacancies for 3 years, so this is meant for candidates genuinely interested in a full tenure.

Who Can Apply?

You must currently be working with the Central Government, a State Government, a Union Territory Administration, an autonomous body, a statutory organisation, a public sector undertaking, or a recognised university/research institution, and meet one of these service conditions:

• You are holding an analogous post on a regular basis in your parent cadre or department, OR
• You have completed 4 years of regular service in Level-12 (Rs. 78,800-2,09,200) or an equivalent post in your parent cadre or department, OR
• You have at least 12 years of regular service in Group 'A' (or equivalent), including at least 6 years on a regular basis in a Level-11 or equivalent post.

Qualification: Along with the above service condition, you need one of these educational qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Electrical, Electronics & Electrical, Information Technology, or Computer Science Engineering from an AICTE-recognised institute, OR
• A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, Engineering, Law, Science, or Humanities from a UGC-recognised university, OR
• Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) or the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India (ICMAI).

Age Limit

• The maximum age for appointment on deputation is 56 years as on the last date of submission of your application.

Salary

• Selected candidates will get a salary of Rs. 1,23,100 to Rs. 2,15,900 per month under Pay Level-13 of the 7th Central Pay Commission.
• You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Government of India rules, along with the usual central government benefits available to officers on deputation, such as Leave Travel Concession and medical facilities.

Selection Process

TRAI does not conduct a written exam for this deputation post. Selection is based on your eligibility, service record, and clearances:

1. Online Application: You submit your application through the TRAI vacancy portal.
2. Forwarding by Parent Department: Your department or organisation sends a duly attested hard copy of your application along with your ACRs/APARs for the last 5 years, vigilance/disciplinary clearance, and cadre clearance.
3. Selection by TRAI: TRAI reviews the forwarded applications and selects suitable candidates whose services can be placed at its disposal.

2. Fill in the online application form for the Joint Advisor post.
3. Download and print the filled application form.
4. Get it duly attested along with your ACRs/APARs, vigilance/disciplinary clearance, and cadre clearance.
5. Send it through your parent department in a sealed envelope, superscribing the post applied for, to the Senior Research Officer (HR), Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, World Trade Centre, 6th Floor, Tower-F, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi-110029 before the last date.

• Advise the TRAI Regional Office on telecom and broadcasting regulatory matters
• Assist in drafting and reviewing regulations, orders and directions issued by the Authority

• Prepare technical and policy notes for the Authority's consideration
• Monitor compliance of telecom operators with TRAI regulations
• Represent the Regional Office in stakeholder consultations and meetings
• Supervise staff and administrative functions of the Regional Office
