Telangana HC District Judge Recruitment 2026 -- 15 Posts

The High Court for the State of Telangana, based in Hyderabad, is filling 15 District Judge (Entry Level) positions under Direct Recruitment. These positions fall under the Telangana State Judicial (Service and Cadre) Rules, 2017. District Judges are among the most respected positions in the Indian judiciary, and this recruitment gives you a direct path from the Bar to the Bench. Who Can Apply?

Educational Qualification

  • You need a law degree (BL/LL.B) from a recognized university
  • You must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in your law degree (55% for SC/ST/BC candidates)

Experience

  • You must be a practicing Advocate in the High Court or in courts under the High Court's control for at least 7 years as on the date of publication of the advertisement
  • Important: Full-time salaried Law Officers working in government, public corporations, or statutory bodies are not eligible

Language Requirement

  • You must be able to read, speak, and write Telugu fluently

Nationality

  • You must be a citizen of India

Other Conditions

  • You must have good character and be free from any infirmity that makes you unfit for the post
  • You must not have been dismissed from service by any High Court
  • You must not have been convicted of an offence involving moral turpitude

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 35 years
  • Maximum age: 45 years (as on the 1st day of the month in which the notification is published in newspapers)
  • Age relaxation for SC/ST/BC: Upper age limit relaxed by 3 years (maximum 48 years)

Salary

  • Pay scale: Rs. 1,44,840 to Rs. 1,94,660 per month
  • Annual package: Approximately Rs. 17.3 lakh to Rs. 23.3 lakh per year
  • Allowances include: Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance, Performance Related Pay (PRP), Internet Allowance, and other benefits as per government rules
  • You will also get accommodation (if available), paid leaves, and maternity benefits

Selection Process

The selection is based on your performance in the following stages:

  1. Screening Test (if necessary): Multiple choice objective-type questions on OMR basis. You need to score at least 40% marks to qualify. Candidates are shortlisted in the ratio of 1:10 of available vacancies. Screening test marks are not added to the final merit.
  2. Written Examination: Three papers, each carrying 100 marks and 3 hours duration:
    • Paper I -- Civil Law: CPC, Evidence Act, Contract Act, Transfer of Property Act, Limitation Act, Specific Relief Act, Family Laws, and more
    • Paper II -- Criminal Law: CrPC, IPC, Evidence Act, NI Act, POCSO Act, Domestic Violence Act, and more
    • Paper III -- English: Translation test (30 marks) from English to Hindi or Telugu, plus Essay Writing on legal subjects (70 marks). Paper III is qualifying only (40% minimum) and marks are not counted for merit.
  3. Viva-Voce (Interview): Carries 50 marks. You will be assessed on mental alertness, knowledge of law, judgment, communication skills, ethics, and character. Candidates are called in the ratio of 1:3 of vacancies.

Minimum marks for Written Exam: General/BC candidates need 60% in each paper (I and II). SC/ST candidates need 50% in each paper (I and II).

Final selection is based on aggregate marks in Paper I + Paper II + Viva-Voce.

Responsibilities

  • Preside over civil and criminal cases at the District Court level and deliver fair judgments
  • Handle family law matters including marriage, divorce, custody, succession, and adoption cases
  • Manage court proceedings efficiently, ensure proper documentation, and maintain case records
  • Assist in the administration of justice by supervising subordinate courts within the district
  • Review bail applications, anticipatory bail petitions, and appeals from subordinate courts
  • Follow all rules and procedures as per the Code of Civil Procedure and Code of Criminal Procedure
  • Prepare well-reasoned written judgments and orders within prescribed timelines
  • Monitor pending cases and work towards reducing case backlogs in the district

Exam Pattern

The selection process has 3 stages:

3. Viva-Voce (Interview)

  • Total marks: 50

  • Candidates called in the ratio of 1:3 of vacancies

Final merit is based on aggregate marks in Paper I + Paper II + Viva-Voce (total 250 marks).
