RML Hospital Consultant (Legal) Recruitment 2026: Overview

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is engaging Consultants (Legal) on a contract basis. Selection happens through a walk-in interview at the hospital in New Delhi.

This is a hands-on litigation and advisory role for a large central government hospital. You will look after the institute's court cases before the Supreme Court, High Court, consumer commissions and tribunals, and give legal opinions on service, procurement, medico-legal and RTI matters. Lawyers with a few years of court practice or in-house government legal work will find the role familiar.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Contract term: The engagement is for one year from joining and can be extended if your performance is satisfactory and the hospital still needs the post.
• No regularisation: The contract gives no right or claim to regular appointment, absorption or continuation.
• Fixed pay only: The monthly pay is fixed; you get no increment, DA, HRA or any other allowance.
• Experience counting: Only experience gained after your LL.B. counts, and eligibility is judged as on the walk-in interview day.
• No private practice: You cannot practise privately or appear in any matter against the hospital, the Ministry or the Government of India, and you must sign an undertaking and a no-conflict-of-interest declaration.
• Confidentiality: You must keep all official records and information strictly confidential.
• Notice period: Either side can end the contract with one month's notice; the hospital can end it without notice for poor performance or misconduct.
• Screening: If many candidates turn up, the hospital may shortlist or hold a written test or screening before the interview.
• Waiting panel: A merit-wise panel may be kept, valid for one year or as the Director decides.
• No TA/DA: You will not be paid travel or daily allowance for attending the interview.
• Canvassing: Any canvassing leads to disqualification.

Application Submission Notes

Report at Room No. 06, Old Building, Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi by 11.00 AM on the interview day. Bring the application filled in the prescribed format (Annexure-I), one recent passport-size photo, your original documents and one set of self-attested photocopies.

You will not be allowed into the interview without original documents, and no one is registered after registration closes. Any change to the interview date will be posted only on rmlh.nic.in.

• Handle and track the institute's court cases before the Supreme Court, High Court, consumer commissions and other courts and tribunals
• Draft and vet para-wise comments, counter affidavits, written statements, replies and appeals
• Coordinate with Government Counsel, CGSC, panel advocates, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of Legal Affairs
• Give legal opinions on administrative, service, contract, procurement, medico-legal and RTI matters
• Keep the court case register and database up to date, including on LIMBS or other government portals
