State Bank of India (SBI) is hiring 49 Law Officers on a permanent basis as Specialist Cadre Officers. If you are a law graduate with at least 2 years of experience as a practising advocate or a bank law officer, you can apply online. The last date to apply is 14 July 2026. The starting basic pay is Rs. 48,480 per month plus DA, HRA and other allowances, and posting can be anywhere in India.

State Bank of India (SBI), the country's largest bank, has released notification number CRPD/SCO/2026-27/02 to recruit 49 Specialist Cadre Officers in the Law stream. The posts are split into 20 Assistant Manager (Law) jobs in the JMGS-I grade and 29 Deputy Manager (Law) jobs in the MMGS-II grade (including 2 ST backlog posts). All jobs are on a regular (permanent) basis with all-India posting. This is a strong opportunity for practising advocates and bank legal professionals who want a stable, officer-level job in a public sector bank. Who Can Apply?
Assistant Manager (Law) - JMGS-I:
- Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognised university in India. A 5-year integrated law course is preferred.
- Experience: At least 2 years as a practising advocate enrolled with the Bar Council, OR 2 years as a Law Officer in the legal department of a Scheduled Commercial Bank (a combination of both also counts).
Deputy Manager (Law) - MMGS-II:
- Qualification: A Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognised university in India. A 5-year integrated law course is preferred.
- Experience: At least 4 years as a practising advocate enrolled with the Bar Council, OR 4 years as a Law Officer in the legal department of a Scheduled Commercial Bank (a combination of both also counts).
Your experience is counted only after enrolment as an advocate with the Bar Council. Internship, teaching and training experience will not be counted.
Important: Your age, qualification and experience are all checked as on the crucial date of 31 May 2026. Candidates with an adverse CIBIL record or an unpaid loan default are not eligible for appointment.
Age Limit
- Assistant Manager (Law): Between 25 and 32 years as on 31 May 2026.
- Deputy Manager (Law): Between 25 and 35 years as on 31 May 2026.
- Age Relaxation: OBC 3 years, SC/ST 5 years, PwBD 10 years (13 years for OBC PwBD and 15 years for SC/ST PwBD), and Ex-Servicemen 5 years.
Salary
- Assistant Manager (Law): JMGS-I basic pay of Rs. 48,480 to Rs. 85,920 per month.
- Deputy Manager (Law): MMGS-II basic pay of Rs. 64,820 to Rs. 93,960 per month.
- On top of basic pay you get DA, HRA, CCA, NPS, Leave Fare Concession and medical facilities as per bank rules, so your actual take-home is much higher than the basic pay.
Application Fee
- General / EWS / OBC: Rs. 750 (application fee and intimation charges).
- SC / ST / PwBD: No fee.
- Payment mode: online through Debit Card, Credit Card or Internet Banking. The fee is non-refundable.
Selection Process
The selection has two stages:
- Online Written Test: An objective test (Reasoning, English Language and Professional Knowledge of Law) followed by a descriptive test on legal subjects. There is no negative marking. The test is tentatively scheduled for August 2026.
- Interview: Candidates who clear the written test are called for an interview worth 100 marks.
The final merit list is prepared from the written test and interview with a 70:30 weightage. Selected candidates must also clear document verification and a medical fitness check before joining.
SBI keeps a post-wise and category-wise wait list that stays valid for one year from the date of the final result. The online test is held at exam centres across India, and you can choose your preferred centre while filling the form.

Responsibilities
- Offer legal opinions and draft, vet and negotiate agreements, contracts and deeds.
- Support bank operations in spotting and reducing legal risk in deals, contracts and projects.
- Handle litigation and attend judicial and quasi-judicial forums on behalf of the bank.
- Track the latest legal developments and share updates with operational teams.
- Coordinate with statutory and regulatory authorities on legal matters.
- Instruct and work with external advocates and legal professionals when needed.
- Carry out title investigation of property in loan and advance cases.

Exam Pattern
The online written test has two parts — an Objective Test (50 marks) and a Descriptive Test (50 marks).
Objective Test
- Test of Reasoning: 25 questions, 25 marks (qualifying only)
- English Language: 35 questions, 35 marks (qualifying only)
- Professional Knowledge (Law): 50 questions, 50 marks (counted for merit)
You get 45 minutes for the General Aptitude section (Reasoning + English) and 45 minutes for the Professional Knowledge section.
Descriptive Test
You answer any 5 out of 8 questions for 50 marks in 45 minutes.
Negative Marking: There is no negative marking in the online written test.
Weightage: Final merit is based on the written test and interview in a 70:30 ratio.
Syllabus (Professional Knowledge): Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, financial sector laws, procedural laws, the new Labour Codes, and principles of statutory interpretation and legal drafting.
