Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh has released advertisement number PGI/RC/051/2026/1180 dated 24 April 2026 for tenure posts with a maximum period of 3 years. Senior Residents and Senior Medical Officers
- Medical Qualification: You need MBBS or an equivalent medical qualification recognised under the Indian Medical Council Act.
- PG Degree: You need MD/MS in the relevant specialty, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Registration: You must be registered with the Central or State Medical Council.
- Senior Medical Officer: You need MD/MS in Medicine or Surgery.
Dental Senior Residents
- Dental Qualification: You need a recognised dental qualification under the Dentists Act, 1948.
- PG Degree: You need MDS in Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics Crown and Bridge Dentistry, or Periodontics, as applicable.
- Registration: You must be registered with the Central or State Dental Council.
Senior and Junior Demonstrators
- Senior Demonstrator: You need the subject-specific qualification such as M.Sc/M.A/MPH with Ph.D for the concerned specialty.
- Junior Demonstrator: For Community Medicine and SPH posts, qualifications include M.A/M.Sc in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Promotion, Health Education, Sociology, Psychology or MPH, as applicable.
- Biochemistry Senior Demonstrator: Medical candidates need MD Biochemistry; non-medical candidates need M.Sc and Ph.D in the concerned subject.
Age Limit
- Upper age limit is 45 years.
- Age will be counted as on the last date of online application, 11 May 2026.
- SC/ST: 5 years relaxation.
- OBC: 3 years relaxation.
- PwBD: 10 years relaxation; PwBD + SC/ST gets 15 years and PwBD + OBC gets 13 years.
- Ex-Servicemen: 5 years relaxation as per the conditions in the guidelines.
Salary
- Senior Resident / Senior Medical Officer / Senior Demonstrator (Medical): Level-11 with minimum pay of Rs. 67,700 plus NPA.
- Senior Demonstrator (Non-Medical): Level-10 with minimum pay of Rs. 56,100.
- Junior Demonstrator (Medical): Level-06 with minimum pay of Rs. 35,400 plus NPA.
- Junior Demonstrator (Non-Medical): Level-06 with minimum pay of Rs. 35,400.
- Allowances will be as per applicable PGIMER and Central Government rules for these tenure posts.

- PwBD: No fee.
- SC / ST: Rs. 800 plus transaction charges.
- General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 1,500 plus transaction charges.
- Payment Mode: Online payment gateway using Debit Card, Credit Card or Net Banking. PGIMER says UPI may be avoided.
Selection Process
The selection process has 3 main stages:
- Computer Based Test: CBT will be held on 22 May 2026. It has 50 questions for 75 marks and a duration of 50 minutes. There is 0.25 negative marking for each wrong answer.
- Scrutiny and Document Verification: Candidates will be shortlisted department-wise and category-wise in the ratio of 1:3. Eligibility notice is expected on 16 June 2026, and document verification is expected on 23 June 2026.
- Departmental Interview and Assessment: Interview and assessment carry 25 marks and are expected on 23 June 2026. Assessment may include clinical evaluation, laboratory testing, structured viva or personal interview.
Minimum qualifying marks are 40% for General/EWS and 35% for SC/ST/OBC in both CBT and interview separately. Final merit will use the combined score of 100 marks.

Responsibilities
- Provide patient care, clinical support or laboratory work in the assigned specialty
- Assist faculty and senior doctors during ward rounds, procedures and department work
- Handle emergency, OPD, indoor patient and on-call duties as per roster
- Prepare case records, lab reports, teaching notes and departmental documentation
- Participate in seminars, case discussions, teaching sessions and academic activities
- Follow PGIMER protocols for patient safety, infection control and professional conduct
- Work full-time during the tenure and avoid private practice during the residency period
