NIT Warangal, an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released a notification for 1 Junior Research Fellow position under an ANRF (Anusandhan National Research Foundation) sponsored project titled "Development of an Integrated Multi-Scale Computational Platform for Modelling Laser Additive Manufacturing Processes". The position is based in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and is sanctioned for 3 years, with your day-to-day work involving procurement of lab equipment, running experiments, interpreting results, and preparing project reports. GATE score is not mandatory for this post, so candidates without a GATE qualification can also apply. Fresh postgraduates and those with hands-on characterization or modelling experience are equally encouraged to apply.

Who Can Apply?

NIT Warangal has kept the eligibility flexible — you need to meet ONE of these three qualification combinations to apply:

Option 1 (Bachelor's + Master's, First Class):

• B.Tech/B.E. (or equivalent) in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering AND M.Tech/M.E. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering or a related field
• First class with 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA at both UG and PG level for General/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates
• Minimum 55% aggregate or 6.0 CGPA at both levels for SC/ST/PwD candidates

Option 2 (Bachelor's only, higher CGPA):

• B.Tech/B.E. (or equivalent) in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
• At least 7.5 CGPA or 70% marks for General/EWS/OBC-NCL candidates, or 7.0 CGPA/65% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates

Option 3 (Materials Science background):

• B.Tech (Ceramic) or M.Sc. (Materials Science/Nanoscience & Nanotechnology) with M.Tech in Materials Science/Metallurgy/Nanoscience/Ceramic Engineering/Surface Engineering
• Minimum 60% aggregate or 6.5 CGPA (General/EWS/OBC-NCL) or 55%/6.0 CGPA (SC/ST/PwD) at both UG and PG

Desirable: Candidates who have qualified GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, or INSPIRE, and those with prior experience in characterization techniques like SEM, TEM, or XRD, or in modelling/simulation software such as Abaqus, Ansys, or Deform will be preferred. GATE is not mandatory to apply.

Age Limit

• You should be up to 30 years old (General/EWS category) as on 29 July 2026, the date the notification was issued.
• Age Relaxation: Up to 33 years for OBC-NCL candidates, and up to 35 years for SC/ST, PwD, and female candidates.

Salary

• You will get a stipend of Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years, rising to Rs. 42,000 per month in the third year.
• HRA is paid as per government rules applicable at NIT Warangal, and you are also eligible for on-campus hostel and mess facilities, subject to availability.
• Bonus benefit: As a selected JRF, you become eligible to register for a Ph.D. programme at NIT Warangal as per institute rules — though you will still need to apply separately when that admission window opens.

Selection Process

Selection is based on your application and a personal interview:

1. Screening of Applications: Your bio-data, CV, and certificates are reviewed against the eligibility criteria listed above.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are called for an online or offline interview before the selection committee.

The list of shortlisted candidates will be announced on the NIT Warangal institute website and also communicated to you directly through email or phone, so keep checking your inbox after applying. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview. If your interview is conducted online, make sure you have a stable internet connection and a working camera, since you'll need to confirm your availability for an online interview in your application itself.
