National Institute of Technology Warangal (NIT Warangal) Field Investigator Recruitment 2026 - 2 Posts

NIT Warangal has released a notification for 2 Field Investigator posts under an ICSSR Minor Research Project titled "Collective Narratives and Performative Traditions: A Co-relational Study of the Hook-Swinging Festivals in Indian Regions (Gajan from Bengal and Khai Poda Yatra from Odisha)." One candidate will be posted for fieldwork in Bengal and one for Odisha, under Principal Investigator Dr. Subhankar Dutta. There is no written exam for this post — candidates are shortlisted on merit and called for an online interview. Candidates with prior fieldwork experience and knowledge of the local language (Bengali/Odia) are preferred.

The Gajan festival of Bengal and the Khai Poda Yatra of Odisha are both community hook-swinging traditions with deep cultural and religious roots. This ICSSR-sponsored study will document the shared and distinct performative traditions across these two regions, making it a good opportunity for candidates interested in cultural anthropology, sociology or folklore studies to gain hands-on field research experience under academic guidance from NIT Warangal.

Vacancy Breakdown

  • Field Investigator (Bengal region): 1 post
  • Field Investigator (Odisha region): 1 post

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: Graduate in any humanities or social sciences discipline with a minimum of 55% marks in the UG degree.
  • Preferred: Candidates with a four-year graduation programme, prior fieldwork experience, knowledge of the local language of the research locale (Bengali/Odia), and the ability to translate and transcribe field interview recordings.
  • Also preferred: Basic Excel/Word skills.

Since there are 2 separate postings, make sure you mention in your application which region — Bengal or Odisha — you are applying for, especially if you have relevant language skills or local familiarity with that area.

Age Limit

  • The age limit for this post is as per ICSSR norms — no specific age criteria is mentioned in the notification.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get a fellowship of Rs. 20,000 per month for the 5-month project duration.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

The selection will be done in 2 stages:

  1. Screening of Applications: Your application, resume and certificates are checked against the eligibility criteria, and candidates are shortlisted on merit and project requirements.
  2. Online Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview conducted online.

Note: Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call — shortlisting depends on merit and the requirement of the project.

Since the post is purely temporary and linked to the project timeline, it can be terminated based on your performance during the assignment. This makes it well suited for candidates looking for short-term, resume-building research experience rather than long-term employment.
