National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar), an Institute of National Importance located in Silchar, Assam, has released a notification for 1 Project Associate-I post in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. This position is funded under an ANRF-DST (Government of India), New Delhi sponsored project titled "Empowering Self-Repairability and EMI Shielding in Frontal Polymerised CFRPs Using Covalent Adaptive Network-Grafted Mxene for Next Generation Aircraft Structures" (project sanction number ANRF/ARG/2025/011059/ENS). The project is headed by Co-Principal Investigator Dr. Sudipta Halder, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Silchar. This is a temporary research position that gives science and engineering graduates hands-on exposure to advanced composite materials and next-generation aircraft structure research.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification (Science stream): Four-year Bachelor's Degree in Sciences or Master's Degree in Sciences, preferably in Chemistry, Polymer Sciences, Materials Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Applied Chemistry, or Plastic Technology.
• Qualification (Engineering stream): Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical and Polymer Engineering, Plastic Engineering, or Polymer Technology.
• Desirable Experience: Hands-on experience in synthesis of nanomaterials, self-healing composites, rapid polymerisation, CFRP (Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer) manufacturing, polymer technology, or mechanical characterisation of materials will be an advantage.

Age Limit

• The upper age limit is 50 years, and your total service duration under the project should not take you past 60 years of age.
• Age Relaxation: Available as per Government of India rules for reserved categories.

Salary

• If you are selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship), GATE, or a national-level exam conducted by a Central Government department or agency, you will get Rs. 37,000 per month plus HRA.
• If you do not fall under the above category, you will get Rs. 30,000 per month plus HRA.
• This is a fixed consolidated pay — no additional allowances beyond HRA are mentioned in the notification.

Selection Process

The selection will be done through:

1. Screening of Applications: NIT Silchar may restrict the number of candidates called for interview based on an initial screening of applications received.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be informed about the interview date, time and mode (online or offline) through email.

If you are currently employed, you must bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer at the time of the interview. Selected candidates will also need to sign an agreement with the institute at the time of joining.
