ICFRE-TFRI JPF and Project Assistant Recruitment 2026: Overview

ICFRE-Tropical Forest Research Institute (TFRI), Jabalpur, a research institute of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), is hiring for a Junior Project Fellow (JPF) and a Project Assistant position under two separate research projects. Both are project-based, temporary engagements — your job lasts only as long as the project it is attached to. If you hold a forestry, agriculture, life science or social science degree and want hands-on research work at a national forestry institute, these posts are worth a look.

Posts and Disciplines

• Junior Project Fellow (JPF): attached to the project "Development of Food Forest for food and livelihood security of farmers in selected agro-climatic zones of Madhya Pradesh" (ID No. 305/MPSFD), led by Dr. Nanita Berry, Scientist-F, of the SFM&FM Division. The project runs through 2025-29. It suits postgraduates in agroforestry, forestry, botany, chemistry, zoology or agriculture; basic computer skills and agroforestry experience give you an edge.
• Project Assistant: attached to a six-month national study on the demand and supply of medicinal plants and their raw material, including a global perspective, led by Dr. Hariom Saxena, Scientist-E, of the Silviculture and Forest Management Division. It is open to graduates in forestry, agriculture, life sciences and social sciences such as sociology, economics and social work; household survey experience, field data collection, knowledge of medicinal plant taxonomy and good MS Office skills are preferred.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of engagement: Purely temporary and co-terminus with the project — the position ends when the project ends.
• Funding condition: The appointment depends on the institute receiving the project budget or funds, so being selected does not by itself guarantee that you will join.
• Fixed pay: Both posts carry a fixed amount with no HRA, so you will not get house rent allowance on top of it.
• Different tenures: The medicinal plants survey is planned for only six months, while the food forest project for the JPF continues till 2029.
• Work base: Both projects are run from TFRI, Mandla Road, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh).
