National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra), under the Ministry of Education, has released Advertisement No. 13/2026 to recruit one research fellow for the project titled "SmileScope: Enhancing Early Autism Diagnosis Through Digital Behavioral Phenotyping". This is a purely temporary, contract position co-terminus with the project, which runs for 3 years. The work is in the Department of Computer Engineering and is a great fit for someone wanting to build a research career — you can even register for a PhD if you meet the institute's rules.

Vacancy Details

• Junior Research Fellow (JRF) / Project Associate-I: 1 post

Project: SmileScope (ANRF sponsored). Principal Investigator: Dr. Pratishtha Verma, Department of Computer Engineering. Project duration: 3 years (from July 2025), co-terminus with the project.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• You must have a B.Tech and M.Tech (or equivalent) in Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology.
• You need First Class (6.5 CGPA out of 10 or 60% marks).

Desirable Qualification

• Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow in computer vision.
• Good Python programming skills.
• A valid GATE or NET score.
• B.Tech and M.Tech specifically in Computer Engineering / CSE.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit is 32 years as on 7 June 2026 for JRF.
• Age Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST/OBC/Female and PH candidates.
• For Project Associate, age is as per the norms of the Government of India / DST-ANRF.

Salary

• JRF: Rs. 37,000 per month in the 1st and 2nd year, and Rs. 42,000 per month in the 3rd year, plus HRA. To get the JRF fellowship you must qualify through CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, or a similar national-level test.
• Project Associate-I: Rs. 30,000 per month plus HRA. This applies if you have ME/M.Tech with First Class (60% or 6.5 CGPA) in CSE/IT/equivalent.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

There is no written exam. Selection is based on:

1. Shortlisting on Merit: Candidates are shortlisted based on academic merit and the project requirement. Meeting the minimum qualification alone does not guarantee an interview call.
2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates are assessed on academic excellence, viva, and a presentation. The interview date is sent by email after the last date.

No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
