About This Job

Apply for Senior Public Prosecutor post in NCB, New Delhi (contract). Advocates with 10+ years at Bar can apply by email.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is hiring one Senior Public Prosecutor (Sr. PP) on a contract basis to represent its Northern Region office in New Delhi. If you are an advocate with 10 or more years of experience at the Bar, you can apply by email. The contract runs for 3 years or until a regular Sr. PP is appointed, whichever comes first. There is no fixed last date for this notice — NCB accepts applications on an ongoing basis until the post is filled.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Senior Public Prosecutor Recruitment 2026

The Narcotics Control Bureau, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is India's apex drug law enforcement agency, responsible for fighting illicit drug trafficking across the country. To strengthen its legal team, NCB's Office of the Deputy Director General (Northern Region) in New Delhi is looking for an experienced advocate to represent the Bureau in court. This is a contract engagement, not a permanent government job — you will work as an independent legal professional engaged by NCB for a fixed tenure, prosecuting cases and advising on ongoing investigations. If you have strong courtroom experience, especially in criminal or NDPS (narcotics) cases, this role puts you on high-profile national security matters.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must be a practicing advocate with 10 years or more of experience at the Bar.
  • Nature of Duties: You will prosecute NCB's court cases across its zones, advise on ongoing investigations, help improve the quality of evidence gathered, develop expertise in presenting the prosecution's case, monitor the progress of trials, and submit court diaries.
  • Restriction: Once selected, you cannot engage in private practice during your tenure as Sr. PP.

The contract comes with confidentiality, integrity, and non-compete clauses that you must sign before taking up the role. Any breach of these terms is grounds for immediate termination, and either NCB or you can end the arrangement with one month's advance notice.

NCB's regional offices, including the Northern Region unit in New Delhi, handle the bulk of drug-trafficking prosecutions arising from seizures and investigations in northern India. A dedicated Senior Public Prosecutor helps the Bureau follow through on these cases in court, rather than relying only on government counsel shared across departments. Once your tenure ends or the contract is terminated, you are required to hand over all case files and records to your successor without delay, so ongoing prosecutions are not disrupted.

Selection Process

NCB follows a simple, interview-based selection process with no written exam:

  1. Shortlisting: NCB reviews applications and shortlists candidates based on experience.
  2. Interaction/Interview: Shortlisted candidates are informed individually through their registered email and phone. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interaction.
  3. Document Verification: You must produce your 12th marksheet, graduation marksheet, LLB/LLM marksheet, Bar Council certificate, and experience certificates during or after the selection process.

How to Apply

  1. Download the application proforma attached to the NCB vacancy notice.
  2. Fill in your personal details, educational qualifications, and legal experience in descending order.
  3. Attach a passport-size photograph and sign the declaration.
  4. Email the completed, scanned form to ddgnr-ncb@nic.in.

Important Dates

  • Notice Issued: April 2025
  • Last Date to Apply: No fixed deadline — applications are accepted until the post is filled

Because this is a rolling vacancy notice rather than a one-time recruitment drive, there is no admit card, written exam, or fixed exam date to track — just send in your application whenever you are ready and meet the eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecute NCB's court cases across the assigned zones
  • Advise investigating officers on evidence quality during ongoing enquiries
