Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) Assistant Professor (History) Recruitment 2026 - 56 Posts

MPPSC has reopened applications for 56 permanent Assistant Professor (History) posts under Advertisement No. 14/2025, originally dated 30 December 2025, for the Higher Education Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. These are Gazetted Class II, permanent government college teaching posts. Out of the 56 posts, 15 are for Unreserved (UR) candidates, while the rest are spread across SC, ST, OBC, and EWS categories. Only 87% of posts (49) will be filled in the main round, with the remaining 13% (7 posts) kept provisional pending a court case related to OBC reservation. Some seats within the 56 are also earmarked for guest faculty already teaching in government colleges and for women candidates domiciled in Madhya Pradesh. Within the main 87% share of 49 posts, 4 posts are reserved for guest faculty already teaching in government colleges, 5 posts are reserved for local women candidates, and 3 posts (1 each for Locomotor Disability, Visually Handicapped, and Hearing Handicapped candidates) are reserved for Persons with Disabilities.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You need a Master's degree in History or an allied subject from a recognized Indian university with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade), or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
  • Eligibility Test: Along with your Master's degree, you must have qualified NET (conducted by UGC), or an equivalent test like SLET/SET accredited by the UGC. Only candidates who cleared the SET conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Government are eligible — SET/SLET cleared in other states will not be considered.
  • Ph.D Exemption: If you hold a Ph.D awarded under UGC Regulations 2009 (or later) meeting the minimum standards, you are exempt from the NET/SLET/SET requirement.
  • Allied Subjects: Candidates with a postgraduate degree in Modern History, Medieval History, or Ancient History (allied subjects of History) can also apply for these posts.
  • Registration: Madhya Pradesh domicile candidates do not need a live employment registration to apply, but must produce it at the time of interview if shortlisted. Candidates from other states are exempt from this registration requirement.

Age Limit

  • You should be between 21 and 40 years old as on 1 January 2026. Your age is calculated based on the date of birth mentioned in your 10th (High School) mark sheet.
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST/OBC candidates, women, Persons with Disabilities, and government/corporation employees domiciled in Madhya Pradesh get a 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit.
  • No candidate above 45 years of age is eligible, even after including all applicable relaxations.

Salary

  • Selected candidates will get an entry pay of Rs. 57,700 per month under Academic Level 10 of the 7th Pay Commission.
  • You will also get DA, HRA, and other allowances as per Madhya Pradesh government rules.
  • Your appointment will be on probation for 2 years before being confirmed as a permanent post.

Selection Process

The selection will be done in 2 stages:

  1. Written Exam (OMR-based, Objective Type): Held at exam centers in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Jabalpur. There is negative marking for wrong answers.
  2. Interview: Candidates are shortlisted for interview at 3 times the number of vacancies in each category, including all candidates who score the same marks as the cutoff.

Your final merit is based on the combined marks of the written exam and interview. If a reserved post for a woman candidate stays unfilled due to lack of eligible women applicants, it will be filled by a male candidate from the same reserved category.
