About This Job

The Indian Army is hiring 30 unmarried male engineering graduates for the 144th Technical Graduate Course (TGC-144) commencing in January 2027 at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. If you have a BE/B.Tech/M.Sc Computer Science degree in a notified engineering stream and are 20 to 27 years old (born 2 Jan 2000 to 1 Jan 2007), you can apply online. The last date to apply is 11 June 2026. Selected candidates get a Permanent Commission in the rank of Lieutenant and a stipend of Rs. 56,400 per month during training.

Indian Army Technical Graduate Course (TGC-144) Recruitment 2026 - 30 Posts

The Indian Army has released notification for the 144th Technical Graduate Course (TGC-144) with 30 tentative vacancies for unmarried male engineering graduates. Selected officers undergo 12 months of pre-commission training at IMA Dehradun (Jan 2027 to Dec 2027) and are commissioned as Lieutenants in the Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals, or Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME). One year ante date seniority is granted to TGC entry officers. CTC after commissioning is approximately Rs. 17-18 lakh per annum.

Who Can Apply?

  • Gender: Only unmarried male candidates can apply
  • Nationality: Citizen of India, or subject of Nepal, or person of Indian origin migrated from certain notified countries
  • Qualification: BE / B.Tech / M.Sc Computer Science in a notified engineering stream from a recognised university
  • Final Year Candidates: You can apply if your final year result will be declared by 1 January 2027. You must produce the degree certificate within 12 weeks of joining IMA
  • Candidates with degrees from foreign countries are not eligible

Age Limit

  • You must be 20 to 27 years old as on 1 January 2027
  • Born not earlier than 1 January 2000 and not later than 1 January 2007
  • Date of birth as per Matriculation/Secondary School Examination Certificate will be accepted

Salary

  • Stipend during Training (12 months at IMA): Rs. 56,400 per month (Starting Pay in Level 10)
  • Lieutenant (on commissioning): Pay Level 10 - Rs. 56,100 to Rs. 1,77,500 per month
  • Military Service Pay (MSP): Rs. 15,500 per month (fixed)
  • Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA), Technical Allowance (Tier-I Rs. 3,000 / Tier-II Rs. 4,500), Transport Allowance Rs. 3,600-7,200, Dress Allowance Rs. 20,000 per year, Children Education Allowance Rs. 2,250 per child/month, Hostel Subsidy Rs. 6,750 per child/month
  • Field/Hardship Allowances: R1H1 up to Rs. 25,000 (Siachen up to Rs. 42,500)
  • CTC on Commissioning: Approximately Rs. 17-18 lakh per annum excluding free medical cover and travel concessions
  • Army Group Insurance: Rs. 1.25 Crore cover (premium Rs. 12,500/month)
  • One year ante date seniority for TGC entry officers in the rank of Lieutenant

Physical Standards

Minimum Physical Standards (before joining IMA):

  • 2.4 Km Run: 10 minutes 30 seconds
  • Push Ups: 40
  • Pull Ups: 6
  • Sit Ups: 30
  • Squats: Two sets of 30 repetitions
  • Lunges: Two sets of 10 repetitions
  • Swimming: Should know fundamentals of swimming

Selection Process

Selection is in the following stages:

  1. Application Shortlisting: Based on cumulative percentage of marks up to final year/semester. Cut-off published in June 2026.
  2. SSB Interview (5 days): Two-stage selection at Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), or Jalandhar (Punjab). Stage 1 candidates who fail are returned the same day. Stage 2 includes Psychological tests, Group Testing Officer tasks, and Personal Interview. Likely held between July - September 2026.
  3. Medical Examination: Conducted after SSB recommendation (Stage 2 cleared). Validity 270 days.
  4. Merit List: Engineering stream-wise based on SSB marks. Ties broken by age then by degree marks.
  5. Joining Letter: Issued to medically fit candidates as per merit and available vacancies.

  3. Fill the online registration form and verify your details.
  4. Click "Apply Online" under Dashboard, then click "Apply" against Technical Graduate Course.
  5. Fill the application segments: Personal Information, Communication Details, Education Details, Previous SSB. Save and Continue at each step.
  6. Review the Summary page carefully, then click Submit.
  7. Take two printouts of the final application with Roll Number 30 minutes after the application window closes.

Aadhaar number and Matriculation certificate are mandatory for registration. There is no application fee.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and command troops as a commissioned officer in the Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals, or Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME)
  • Plan and execute technical operations during military exercises and field deployments
  • Manage engineering projects including construction, maintenance, and battlefield infrastructure
  • Operate, maintain, and supervise advanced technical equipment, weapons systems, and communication networks
  • Train and mentor soldiers under your command on technical and tactical drills
  • Maintain discipline, morale, and welfare of the unit
  • Carry out duties in peace areas, field areas, high-altitude regions, and counter-insurgency operations as posted
  • Uphold the values, ethics, and code of conduct of the Indian Army Officer Corps

Exam Pattern

There is no written exam. Selection is based on Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview conducted at one of four centres - Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru, or Jalandhar - over five days in two stages.

SSB Two-Stage Selection

  • Stage 1 (Screening): Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests and Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PPDT). Candidates who fail Stage 1 are returned the same day.
  • Stage 2: Psychological Tests, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks (group discussion, group planning, progressive group task, command task, lecturette, etc.), and Personal Interview spread across 4 days.

Merit List

Merit list is prepared engineering stream-wise based on SSB marks. In case of equal SSB marks, the older candidate is ranked higher. If both SSB marks and age are same, the candidate with higher degree percentage is preferred.

Physical Fitness Standards Before Joining IMA

2.4 km run in 10 minutes 30 seconds, 40 push-ups, 6 pull-ups, 30 sit-ups, two sets of 30 squats, two sets of 10 lunges, and fundamentals of swimming.
