The Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), Indian Institute of Technology Madras has issued Advertisement No. ICSR/PR/Advt.90/2026 dated 14 May 2026 for the temporary post of System Administrator in the Centre for Programmable Photonic Integrated Circuits and Systems, coordinated by Prof. Bijoy Krishna Das, Department of Electrical Engineering. The role focuses on managing servers, networks, HPC nodes, data security, and lab IT/OT infrastructure for a cutting-edge photonics research lab. Experienced Linux/Unix administrators with HPC, scripting, and cloud knowledge are the ideal candidates.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Computer Applications, or a related discipline.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of R&D lab experience after the qualifying degree.

Technical Skills Required

• Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix administration (Red Hat, SuSE, Debian)
• Experience managing HPC nodes, servers, storage systems, and network configuration (TCP/IP, firewalls)
• Scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation
• Knowledge of LIMS, VMWare virtualization, and cloud services (AWS, Azure)
• Familiarity with data acquisition tools, scientific instruments, and high-tech lab equipment
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for collaborating with research engineers

Indian citizens are eligible. Migrants from Pakistan or subjects of Nepal need an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

Salary

• Consolidated salary: Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 95,000 per month (depending on qualifications and experience)
• 5% annual increment every year
• Duration: 1 year initially, extendable up to 5 years based on performance

Selection Process

Selection is through shortlisting based on qualifications and experience:

1. Shortlisting based on online application information. The institute may restrict the number of candidates for test/interview based on qualifications and relevance of experience.
2. Written / Skill Test / Interview as decided by the institute. Mode of screening is at the institute's discretion.
3. Document Verification at the time of test/interview. Hard copy of the application is NOT to be sent — only carry it when called.
