Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) Patent Agent Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

The Office of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research (IC&SR), IIT Madras has released Advertisement No. ICSR/PR/Advt.152/2026, dated 12 August 2026, for 1 Patent Agent post in its Intellectual Property Management Cell. This is a temporary, contract-basis position — initially for one year, extendable based on your performance. The role focuses on Electronics and Communication Engineering patent work, and 0-5 years of experience is acceptable, so freshers can apply too.

IC&SR is the technology-transfer and industry-facing wing of IIT Madras, handling consultancy projects, sponsored research, and the Institute's growing patent portfolio. Working here gives you exposure to the Institute's electronics and communication research output while you build your career as a patent professional. Keep in mind that completing the contract period does not confer any right to extension, regularization, or permanency at the Institute — the position is purely contractual.

Who Can Apply?

• Qualification: You must be a Registered Indian Patent Agent.
• Degree: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering with a strong technical background is preferred.
• Experience: 0 to 5 years of experience in IP-related work.
• Skills: Strong analytical skills to interpret patent search results, proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and excellent verbal and written communication.
• Citizenship: You must be a citizen of India. Migrants from Pakistan settling permanently in India, or subjects of Nepal, are also eligible with an eligibility certificate from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
• Currently on an IIT Madras project? You must apply through the proper channel and produce a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) at the time of document verification.

Salary

Selection Process (No Fixed Written Exam)

There is no fixed written exam pattern for this post. Selection generally follows these steps:
