Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Scientist-D Recruitment 2026 - 2 Posts

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Advertisement No. ICMR/Rectt/Sc-D/01/2026-RPCell is for direct recruitment of Scientist-D (Medical) on a regular basis. ICMR works through its New Delhi headquarters, 27 institutes/centres and field stations across India, so this post is meant for doctors who can handle national-level biomedical research responsibilities. The selected doctors can be transferred anywhere under ICMR because the post carries all India transfer liability.

Who Can Apply?

Essential Qualification

• Medical qualification: You need an MBBS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI/NMC.
• Experience: You need 8 years of experience in Research & Development related to Biomedical Sciences, relevant to clinical trials.
• Experience sectors allowed: Experience in government, public sector or private institutions is accepted when it is relevant to biomedical research and clinical trials.

Desirable Qualification

• MD/MS or equivalent degree recognised by MCI/NMC, or MPH from a recognised university.
• Ph.D. from a recognised university in a subject related to biomedical sciences.
• Clinical trials R&D experience is desirable for this role.

Experience Counting Notes

• Ph.D. will be considered as 4 years of experience, regardless of the time taken to complete the degree.
• MD/MS or equivalent will be considered as 3 years of experience.
• MVSc will be considered as 2 years of experience.
• MPH, M.Tech and ME will not be counted as experience under the notification notes.
• The period spent on getting the minimum essential educational qualification will not count towards experience.

Shortlisting Notes

• First check: ICMR first shortlists people who meet the minimum age, qualification and experience conditions.
• If the list is large: ICMR may prefer applicants with higher relevant experience or higher educational qualification, depending on the decision of the competent authority.
• Document caution: Upload only correct and complete documents, because missing proof can lead to rejection during scrutiny.

Age Limit

• Upper age limit: 45 years.
• Age relaxation is available as per Government of India instructions.
• Eligibility conditions are checked with reference to the last date of online application, which is 29 June 2026.

Salary

• Pay Matrix Level 12: Rs. 78,800 to Rs. 2,09,200 per month under the 7th CPC scale.
• You will also get usual allowances admissible to ICMR employees.
• This is a regular direct recruitment post, not a short-term project role.

Selection Process

ICMR may use a computer-based test, an interview, or both.

1. Eligibility Shortlisting: ICMR first checks age, qualification and experience.
2. Further Shortlisting: If many people qualify, ICMR may shortlist based on higher experience or higher educational qualification.
3. Computer-Based Test: If held, the test will be based on understanding of research methods and will be qualifying in nature.
4. Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be called for interview / personal discussion.
5. Document Verification: Uploaded documents and original certificates are checked before appointment.

Important: ICMR says it does not fully scrutinise documents at the time of online submission. If a document or eligibility claim fails later, the application can be cancelled at any stage, even after appointment.

3. Fill in your personal, qualification, medical registration and experience details carefully.

5. Pay the application fee online if you are not exempted, and check every entry before payment.
6. Submit the form before 29 June 2026 at 5:30 PM and keep the final printout for your records.
