The Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has invited applications for hiring 1 Consultant "A" (RS-GIS) at its Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management (CoE-SLM) in Dehradun. The consultant will work on the project "Standardization of Package and Practices for Eco-rehabilitation of Degraded Coal Mines Falling Under Different Agro-climatic Zones of India through Forestry Interventions." Selection is through a walk-in interview only — there is no written exam. Candidates with a strong background in remote sensing and GIS applications for forestry and land research should apply. The place of posting for this role is the Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Land Management, ICFRE, Dehradun.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: First Class Master's degree in Geo-informatics or RS-GIS related subjects.
  • Experience: More than 3 years and up to 5 years of experience in RS-GIS application for research, satellite image processing, and interpretation.
  • Preferred: A PhD in Geo-informatics/RS-GIS related subjects in the forestry sector, with project handling experience in RS-GIS applications, is desirable.

Age Limit

  • The maximum age limit is 65 years.

Salary

  • You will get a fixed consolidated remuneration of Rs. 60,000 per month, inclusive of all applicable taxes.
  • You are eligible for an 8% annual increment, subject to a satisfactory performance report from the Principal Investigator/Head, CoE-SLM.
  • No separate allowances (DA, HRA, medical reimbursement, etc.) are payable, though TA/DA and hotel accommodation are provided for official work as per ICFRE norms. No TA/DA is admissible for attending the interview or joining the assignment.

Terms of Engagement

  • The role is purely temporary and contractual in nature — no request for promotion will be entertained.
  • You will be entitled to 8 days of leave in a single year of consultancy, accrued on a completed-month, pro-rata basis. Unavailed leave cannot be carried forward to the next year.
  • Working hours will be the same as a regular ICFRE government employee, and attendance is marked through a biometric system.
  • You will not be entitled to Dearness Allowance, Residential Telephone, Residential Accommodation, Personal Staff, CGHS, or Medical Reimbursement facilities.
  • As part of the engagement, you must submit an integrity certificate from 2 references and a self-undertaking confirming no pending criminal case.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

Selection for the Consultant "A" post is through a walk-in interview:

  1. Document Verification: Report at 9:30 AM with original documents to verify your essential and desirable qualifications.
  2. Interview: The interview commences at 11:00 AM onwards.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the extent of land degradation at project intervention sites using field observations and RS-GIS tools
  • Estimate soil erosion at intervention sites using the RUSLE model
  • Conduct field visits and ground-truth RS-GIS outputs
  • Develop RS-GIS based land degradation and eco-rehabilitation monitoring models
  • Support other project tasks assigned by the Principal Investigator
  • Participate in the approved annual activities of CoE-SLM, ICFRE
