IITR JRF ECE Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow in its Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The fellow will join the project titled “A novel power-on pilot IC for ultralow power wireless IoT devices”, supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology through the C2S programme.

The research focuses on a wakeup receiver for Internet of Things applications. This is the part of a wireless device that listens for an incoming signal while keeping normal power use very low, so the work connects communication theory, circuit-aware system design and practical implementation. The project provides a focused setting for someone who wants to work at the boundary of VLSI, radio-frequency communication and baseband signal processing.

The selected fellow will work under Principal Investigator Prof. Sudeb Dasgupta and Co-Principal Investigator Prof. Abhay Kumar Sah. The assignment includes building transmit and receive chains, developing the matching baseband algorithms and testing them in MATLAB or Simulink. Research results also need to be documented and presented, making the role suitable for someone interested in both technical development and scholarly communication.

This is a project position within IIT Roorkee's sponsored-research system rather than a regular institute appointment. You should expect a research-led workday with model development, programming, simulation, technical reading and discussions with the investigators. Clear records and reproducible results matter because the output may feed into reports, papers, patents or presentations for technical forums. The work also gives you direct exposure to a live semiconductor research programme with a defined low-power wireless application.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Tenure: The initial appointment is for one year or until the project ends, whichever applies under the institute's project terms.
• Equal-merit preference: SC and ST applicants receive preference when qualifications and experience are equal.
• Interview expense: IIT Roorkee will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview.
• Document check: Original degrees, certificates and experience records must be produced at the interview for verification.
• Research setting: The position is tied to the sponsored project and does not carry a promise of continuation beyond its approved duration.
