The Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), an institution of national importance under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has released Advertisement No. FDDI-CHN/(1)/HR/Ad-Hoc/2026-27/02 to hire 3 Junior Faculty members and 1 Lab Assistant on an ad-hoc basis at its Chennai campus. These are consolidated-pay, ad-hoc engagements for an initial period of 6 months, extendable further based on institutional need and approval of the competent authority. The recruitment covers three faculty domains - Illustration & CAD, Design Process, and Pattern Making & Garment Construction - plus one Lab Assistant role supporting the pattern-making lab.

Vacancy Details

Who Can Apply?

For Junior Faculty (All Domains) - Rs. 50,000/month:

• Qualification: Master's Degree (minimum 2 years duration after graduation) in Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Communication Design, Apparel Design, Fashion Technology, Fashion Management, Textile & Clothing, Lifestyle Accessory Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, or an equivalent field with at least 55% marks from a recognized university
• Desirable Qualification: Doctoral degree in a relevant field
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of academic and/or industry experience in your chosen domain. If your experience is academic, it should be from teaching UG degree or higher courses
• Domain skills (Illustration & CAD post): Hands-on experience with CorelDraw, Photoshop, TUKACAD, 2D & 3D design software, and Illustrator

For Lab Assistant - Rs. 30,000/month:

• Qualification: 8th Pass (10th Pass desirable)
• Job Requirement: You should be practically skilled in machine operation, garment/apparel pattern making, sample making, and demonstrating techniques to students. You should also be able to operate and repair sewing machines such as lock stitch, overlock, and flatlock machines

Candidates from SC/ST/OBC/EWS and differently-abled categories can apply for all posts.

Salary

• Junior Faculty: Rs. 50,000 per month (consolidated pay)
• Lab Assistant: Rs. 30,000 per month (consolidated pay)
• Regular pay scales do not apply here - only the consolidated pay mentioned above will be paid, on a pro-rata basis for part-month engagement.
• You get 2 casual leaves per month during your 6-month engagement, with no earned leave or leave encashment. No HRA, house allotment, LTC, or medical benefits are admissible.

Selection Process (No Written Exam)

The selection is done through:

1. Interview: Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview. There is no written test for these posts.

• Perform all teaching and academic duties assigned for your domain (Illustration & CAD, Design Process, or Pattern Making & Garment Construction)
• Assist in student evaluation, project assessment, and other academic tasks as assigned
• Ensure maximum student attendance and discipline in your assigned classes
• Submit weekly attendance reports through the ERP system
• Participate in departmental reviews and discipline meetings
• Operate, maintain, and repair sewing machines such as lock stitch, overlock, and flatlock (Lab Assistant)
• Maintain documentation and records of the department and lab equipment
• Follow all FDDI policies, rules, and attendance norms
