Chikkamagaluru District Court is hiring 5 Stenographers (Grade-III) on a backlog basis for courts across Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka. Chikkamagaluru District Court Stenographer Grade-III Recruitment 2026 - 5 Posts

The Principal District and Sessions Court, Chikkamagaluru has released notification number ADMN-01/2026 for 5 Stenographer Grade-III backlog posts. All 5 seats are reserved (backlog) posts for SC, ST and OBC categories. This is a permanent Karnataka government job with good pay and a 2-year probation period — a strong option if you have shorthand and typing skills.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: You must have passed Second PUC or a 3-year Diploma in Commercial Practice (or an equivalent exam).
  • Shorthand & Typing: You must have passed the Senior Grade Shorthand exam and the Senior Grade Typewriting exam in Kannada and English (conducted by the Department of Public Instruction), or hold a Diploma in Commercial Practice.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years (as on 28 July 2026).
  • Maximum age for General: 35 years.
  • Category 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B: up to 38 years.
  • SC / ST / Category-1: up to 40 years.
  • An extra 5 years relaxation is given to all categories as a one-time measure under the government order dated 29 January 2026.
  • Government employees, widows, ex-servicemen and persons with disabilities get further relaxation as per rules.

Salary

  • Pay scale: Rs. 44,425 - Rs. 83,700 per month.
  • You will also get DA, HRA and other allowances as per Karnataka government rules.

Selection Process

Selection has three parts — your qualifying marks, a skill test and an interview:

  1. Skill Test (100 marks): A shorthand dictation at 120 words per minute for 5 minutes, which you must type out (transcribe) on a computer within 45 minutes. You need at least 50 marks to pass.
  2. Interview (5 marks): Top candidates in a 1:5 ratio per post are called.
  3. Document Verification: Your original certificates are checked.

Final merit is based on your qualifying marks, skill test and interview together. During probation you must also pass the Kannada language and computer literacy exams.

Responsibilities

  • Take dictation in shorthand from judges and senior officers
  • Transcribe shorthand notes into neat typed documents on the computer
  • Prepare court orders, judgments, letters and official notes
  • Maintain a record of dictation and typed work
  • Handle confidential court papers with care
  • Manage the officer's files, appointments and daily correspondence
  • Follow the instructions of the presiding officer and senior staff
