National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) is hiring 1 Project Fellow for a Naval Research Board-funded project in the Department of Industrial Design. NIT Rourkela Project Fellow Recruitment 2026 - 1 Post

NIT Rourkela's Sponsored Research, Industrial Consultancy and Continuing Education (SRICCE) division has released Advertisement No. NITR/SR/2026/Advt.-25ID016/L/055 for 1 Project Fellow post under the project "Design, fabrication, and characterization of a compact low frequency mechanical underwater noise generator", funded by the Naval Research Board (NRB). The project is led by Prof. Dibya Prakash Jena and Prof. Mohit Lal from the Department of Industrial Design. NIT Rourkela is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, and regularly hires graduates and postgraduates as Project Fellows for its sponsored research projects. The engagement is purely temporary and contractual — it will end once the project is completed.

Who Can Apply?

  • Qualification: B.Tech/B.E. and M.Tech in any discipline with more than 60% marks in 10th, 12th, and all qualifying degrees, OR an M.Sc. in Physics/Mathematics. One second-class result in 10th or 12th is allowed.
  • PhD Enrollment: If you hold an M.Tech/B.Tech with a valid GATE score, or an M.Sc. with GATE/NET, you may be considered for PhD enrollment alongside the fellowship, subject to approval by the Department Research Committee (DRC).
  • Desirable Skills: 3D modelling in SolidWorks, FEM simulation in ANSYS/COMSOL, MATLAB programming with hardware, and polymer/viscoelastic material modelling using TTS. These are an added advantage, not mandatory.

Salary

  • You will get a fellowship of Rs. 37,000 per month for the first two years of the project.
  • This is a research fellowship, not a regular pay-scale post — no separate grade pay applies.

  • Collaborate with the Department of Industrial Design's research team on project milestones
  • Maintain lab equipment and follow safety protocols during testing
