IISER Berhampur JRF Recruitment 2026: Overview
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Berhampur (IISER Berhampur) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow in its Department of Chemical Sciences. The fellow will join an Anusandhan National Research Foundation project on nickel-catalyzed enantioselective difunctionalization of olefins under Dr Amit Kumar Simlandy. This is a focused synthetic-organic-chemistry role for someone who wants hands-on research experience with modern reaction development and molecular characterisation.
The project combines reaction design with careful laboratory execution. You will work on performing reactions, purifying products and characterising compounds using techniques such as NMR and HRMS. The engagement is tied to a funded project rather than a permanent institute post, and the principal investigator will assess how well your laboratory work and research documentation support the project goals.
IISER Berhampur is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The position is based at the institute's Laudigam campus near Berhampur in Odisha, giving the selected fellow access to the Department of Chemical Sciences and its research environment. Candidates with a solid grounding in organic chemistry and an interest in catalytic asymmetric synthesis are the closest fit for this work.
Service Conditions and Caveats
- Tenure: The initial engagement is for six months from joining. It may continue for up to another six months only when performance supports an extension.
- Nature of post: This is a temporary project appointment. It does not create a claim to a permanent position at IISER Berhampur.
- Fellowship condition: The monthly fellowship carries HRA as applicable under the project rules.
- National examination: A score in a national-level examination is described as desirable, and any certificate or fellowship relied upon must remain valid when you join.
- Shortlisting: Only shortlisted candidates will receive the evaluation-cum-skill-test schedule and mode by email. The notification does not fix the assessment date in advance.
- Research focus: Your application should clearly show experience or coursework relevant to organic synthesis, reaction purification and molecular characterisation, because these tasks form the centre of the project.
