Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is hiring a Project Assistant in its Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering. The role supports a research project led by Prof. Debabrata Sircar and sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi. The team is developing a handheld sensor that can predict the quality of two economically important medicinal plants without damaging them, while also exploring ways to improve plant quality.

This is a good fit if your biotechnology background crosses into plant science, data science and sensor development. The work is not limited to routine laboratory assistance: you will connect experimental observations with artificial-intelligence models and test whether those models give reliable predictions. Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: the appointment runs only until the project ends on 5 March 2027; it is not a regular institute post.
• Nationality: the position is open to Indian nationals.
• Technical breadth: your work may move between plant-tissue handling, instrument-based analysis, scientific datasets and AI model validation, so you should be comfortable working across laboratory and computational tasks.
• Preference: prior work on AI sensor-based products can strengthen your profile. On equal qualifications and experience, SC and ST candidates receive preference.

• Travel support: the institute will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview.

The appointment sits within a sponsored research project, so your day-to-day priorities will follow the principal investigator's experimental and development plan.
