IITR JRF Physics Recruitment 2026: Overview

Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) is engaging a Junior Research Fellow in the Department of Physics for QUEST, the Quantum Enhanced WRF model for Urban Climate System Modelling project. The project is supported by the National Quantum Mission under the Department of Science and Technology and connects quantum-computing methods with urban climate modelling. This is a project-linked research engagement rather than a regular institute appointment, with the fellow working under Principal Investigator Prof. P. Arumugam. The selected fellow may also get an opportunity to seek PhD admission, making the role especially relevant if you want research experience at the meeting point of physics, computing and climate science. The notice places the work inside the Physics research group at Roorkee, where simulation results and computational analysis contribute to the wider project rather than a standalone assignment.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Project tenure: The engagement is planned for three years and is tied to the QUEST research project.
• Nationality: The position is open to Indian nationals only.
• Research environment: You will work with the Physics team on quantum algorithms, computational simulations and machine-learning-supported analysis for an urban climate modelling problem.
• PhD opportunity: The notification says the selected person may get an opportunity for PhD admission. This is an opportunity to seek admission, not a promise of automatic enrolment.
• Equal-merit preference: SC and ST candidates receive preference when qualifications and experience are otherwise equal.
• Travel support: IIT Roorkee will not pay TA or DA for attending the interview. Plan your travel to Roorkee accordingly.
• Original-record check: Keep your original degree and experience records ready because the institute will check them when you attend the interview.
