The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) has released Advt. No. 08/2026 to fill 65 Company Commander posts in the Bihar Home Guard service cadre through a competitive examination. Selection is based on a two-stage written exam (Prelims and Mains) followed by a Physical Efficiency Test. Age is counted as on 01 August 2025, based on your matriculation (10th) certificate.
- General (Male): 20 to 37 years
- General (Female): 20 to 40 years
- BC / EBC (Male & Female): 20 to 40 years
- SC / ST and Third Gender (Male & Female): 20 to 42 years
- Bihar government servants seeking a higher pay scale who have completed 3 years of regular service get up to 5 years age relaxation.
- Ex-servicemen get age relaxation as per rules (actual age not above 57 years).
Salary
- The post is in Pay Level-6 of the 7th Pay Commission, with a pay range of Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400 per month.

Physical Standards
No marks are given for height, chest, or weight, but you must meet the minimum standards or you will be declared unsuccessful.
For Male Candidates:
- Height: General / BC — 165 cm; EBC / SC / ST — 160 cm
- Chest (General / BC / EBC): 81 cm (normal), 86 cm (expanded) — minimum 5 cm expansion needed
- Chest (SC / ST): 79 cm (normal), 84 cm (expanded) — minimum 5 cm expansion needed
For Female Candidates:
- Height: 155 cm (all categories)
- Weight: Minimum 48 kg (all categories)
- Chest is not measured for women

Selection Process
Selection is done in the following stages:
- Preliminary Exam: One objective paper of 200 marks with 100 questions in 2 hours, covering General Knowledge and Current Affairs. You must score at least 30% to qualify. Candidates up to 20 times the vacancies are shortlisted for the Mains.
- Main Exam: Two papers. Paper 1 (General Hindi) — 100 questions for 200 marks, qualifying at 30% (marks not added to merit). Paper 2 (General Studies, Science, Civics, History, Geography, Maths, Reasoning) — 100 questions for 200 marks, counted for merit. Both papers are objective and run for 2 hours each.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Candidates up to 6 times the vacancies (based on Mains merit) are called. You only need to pass — no marks are added.
- Medical Examination and Character Verification: The final step before appointment.
Negative Marking: 0.2 marks are deducted for every wrong answer in both the Prelims and Mains.
Minimum qualifying marks for the final merit: SC/ST/Women 32%, EBC 34%, BC 36.5%, General 40%.

Responsibilities
- Lead and command a company (Gulm) of the Bihar Home Guard
- Train and supervise home guard personnel in drill, discipline, and field duties
- Maintain law and order support during festivals, elections, and emergencies
- Assist the district administration and police in disaster relief and crowd control
- Manage duty rosters, attendance, and records of the company
- Ensure proper use and upkeep of arms, equipment, and stores
- Report to senior officers and carry out assigned operational tasks
