VOCPA Visiting General Surgeon Recruitment 2026: Overview

V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), the major port at Tuticorin (Thoothukudi), Tamil Nadu under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, needs a Visiting Consultant General Surgeon for its Port Hospital. It is a contract engagement for periodic duty with the busiest schedule of the current visiting posts — four visits a week to the hospital or port dispensary, each paid separately.

The Port Hospital is a 62-bed hospital offering outpatient and inpatient care. You will treat serving and retired port employees, their spouses and dependents, and CISF personnel and their families.

Selection is by a walk-in interview in the Chief Medical Officer's chamber, after you send your documents in advance.

Service Conditions and Caveats

• Nature of engagement: Contract basis for periodic duty — this is not a regular post and has no fixed monthly salary.
• Visit schedule: Four visits per week to the Port Hospital or Port Dispensary.
• Pay basis: A fixed amount per visit; what you earn each month depends on the visits you make.
• Experience source: One year as a Surgeon in a government, public sector or private hospital is accepted.
• Age: You must be below 65 years of age.

Then attend the walk-in interview on 3 November 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Chamber of the Chief Medical Officer, VOCPA. Bring your original certificates for checking.

• Visit the Port Hospital or Port Dispensary four times a week for surgical consultation
• Examine and treat surgical cases among port employees, retirees, CISF personnel and their families
• Review admitted surgical patients in the wards during your visits
• Advise the hospital's medical officers on referrals and post-operative care
• Record diagnosis, treatment and surgery notes for each patient
